I have been using Ad Muncher for many years ( I'd say at least 4) on one computer, and it has effectively suppressed most of the annoying ads. Lately using Sandboxie and Avira I've noticed that surfing the internet it is much faster without Ad Muncher (I thought Avira had something to do with it). I could be wrong of course but by turning it off I get a definite speed increase.

By stating my problem I don't want to say anything negative about Ad Muncher as it has an excellent reputation.

Ad Muncher is indispensable for me; I've been using it since Jan 2006.

Ad Muncher is one of the best applications I have installed on my computers. Do I need to tell it also protects against many malicious files embedded into ads? :D

I've had ad muncher for probably 4-5 years and have used it off and on. As of this date I am on and feel AM has cleaned up their act as we have different opinions on some issues. The big negative for me was when AM forced lifetime license users to beta test their products or not receive any ad block updates. That was pretty low IMO. But they seem to have changed that policy. I have tried the ad blockers for Chrome and Firefox and those types usually mean I have to combine several different plug ins for them to be effective. With ad muncher I just add a program to be filtered and it's done.

Is it worth it? I mean I use Firefox with Adblock plus.

I have an important question to regular AdMuncher users: Do you have detailed information about benchmarks measuring the different performance impacts on system resources of Ad Muncher?

It's more effective than any adblocker extension out there, and I have not encountered any slow downs or lag. Beside ads it also block pop-ups and such junk, outstanding software.

It's DEFINITELY better than Adblock Plus extension. I notice no slow downs when browsing, and I'm kind of hard to please in that matter! :)

To each his own experience, eh? ;)
I detest internet ads, and would gladly pay for a quality product like Ad Muncher, but there is no need.
Chrome and AdBlock (not even AdBlock Plus) extension eliminates all ads for me.
Every now and then (very rarely!) one sneaks thru and I custom block it and it's gone like a cool breeze.
And I detect no performance drag with AdBlock.

Ad Muncher is not dependent on what software you use, you can use any browser, mail client etc ;)

Adblock Plus does not prevent tracking cookies, web bugs, malicious sites from bookmarking themselves, changing windows sizes et cetera. It only filters the the browser which you have installed the plugin for. AdMuncher does all this for all browsers/applications of your choice.

AdMuncher can filter any application (not necessarily a browser). AdMuncher can remove background music on web pages. AdMuncher is not only about preventing annoying ads. :)

Haha! I've personally not encountered background music since back in the 90s when MIDI-files were played on every single home page. :p

Don't tell me Ad Muncher eliminates the 15-30 second commercials that run prior to videos, like on CNN for example?

    Holy smokes!
What happens when Ad Muncher blocks a 30-second commercial that runs prior to a CNN video?
30 seconds of down time, or does it skip right to the desired vid?

Ad Muncher is great, with one caveat for me - they really need to sort out the lack of gzip support. My installation of ad muncher remains inactive because lack of gzip support breaks Google Instant. So I use Adblock+ and thereby retain Google Instant support. If Ad Muncher ever support gzip then it will be used again.

Usually the video goes black for a couple of seconds then the video will start.

And another question for AM users...
Are there empty spaces where the blocked ads would have been (sometimes with accompanying red X's for blocked images), or is the page neat and tidy with empty spaces filled with other content?

It's all neat and tidy with no empty spaces. It's very well done :)

By enabling the option seen below, empty spaces are removed.
