Is anyone familiar with this exe file? When I open my task manager in windpws xp, processes 2ndtwpp.exe is running and using 99% of cpu resources. Every tine I open my task manager, the performance tab, the CPU jumps to 100% usage and stays there?

    Hi aurdav,

Before you start please unzip hijackthis.exe to a folder of it´s own. The program creates backups in the folder it is in. In a Temp folder they easily disappear.

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}_ - (no file)

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TV Media] C:\Program Files\TV Media\Tvm.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [x48V38i] C:\WINDOWS\System32\2ndtwpp.exe

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [TV Media] C:\Program Files\TV Media\Tvm.exe

    O16 - DPF: {E0CE16CB-741C-4B24-8D04-A817856E07F4} - http://cabs.roings.com/cabs/budicon.cab

Your suspicions were justified by the looks of it.

Reboot when you are done and delete:
    C:\Program Files\TV Media <= entire folder
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\2ndtwpp.exe

Then run HijackThis again and post a new log.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Download Registrar Lite from here:
    http://www.resplendence.com/download/reglite.exe

Put it in its own folder. You may want to keep this program. It is an excellent free, registry editor.

Copy and paste the follow text into the address bar, then hit 'Go':
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks

In the pane on the right are the values associated with that key.
We want to remove this one -> {CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}_
Notice the underscore at the end, all the others with that need to go as well.

Right click on it, and select delete.
If you get a confirmation question, respond OK then close out the program.

    Regards,

    Pieter

Thank you Pieter. Here is the new log.

I have spyware blaster running but adaware finds something every time I run it. Is that normal?

    Your log looks fine.

What exactly does AdAware find? Tracking cookies?

Yes, this last time was cookies. It is usually data miner or malware. my kids use AOL IM, I'm sure that drops loads of stuff. I appreciate your assistance.

IE6 has a nice tool built in for that: http://privacy.getnetwise.org/browsing/tools/ie6/cookiesadvanced

Block third party cookies and set First party to prompt, so you can make your selection. Allow session cookies.
That's the way I have them set and that should decrease the number of what AdAware finds a lot.

    Regards,

    Pieter
