Please help with a very frustrating problem. 1on1 dialler or Hot_Kiss.

This disconnects my AOL internet connection and dials up some other connection. Its so bad I’m having to write this on Word and copy and paste it in the few seconds or minutes I have before it disconnects.

When I go to Control Panel/Network connections there is an XXXserver. I keep deleting it, but everytime I reboot and connect it somehow turns up again.

My homepage, no matter how many times I reset to google or whatever, keeps loading up something called netsearch.com which overlaps the google screen at the bottom.

When I do a search there appear items typically called uk5.exe, uk4.exe, uk7.exe, hot_kiss.exe. They all have three multicoloured xxx’s as the file icon.

I have tried loading Windows XP Home in safe mode.

I have Adaware and Spybot and have tried using those but without any luck.

I have tried deleting these uk5.exe, etc type files from the registry but not sure what’s what, so I didn’t want to tamper too much.

I notice that no matter what I do it is as if something loads them up and installs these programs when I connect to the internet.

I have downloaded HijackThis and have attached the log. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi FDddy,

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://netsearchsoft.com/passthroug...w.google.co.uk/
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = C:\WINDOWS\secure.html

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\secure.html
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\secure.html

    O2 - BHO: MyWay Search Assistant BHO - {04079851-5845-4dea-848C-3ECD647AA554} - C:\Program Files\MyWay\SrchAstt\1.bin\MYSRCHAS.DLL (file missing)

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Comp Memo] C:\PROGRA~1\INTERS~1\base store.exe

Then reboot into safe mode and delete:
C:\Program Files\INTERS~1 <= the entire folder that holds the file base store.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\csrss.exe

    Hi Pieter,

Thanks for the help. I tried everything you said, and it seems to have got rid of the netserach.com homepage, and so far have been running the internet 15 minutes without any hot_kiss/1on1 shut down disruption.

I did another HijackThis scan, and attached it below. Few questions if you would oblige:
    1. Does it seem to be clean now?
    2. Is there anything else I need to do?
    3. Also, is there anything I need to be aware of in the future to avoid getting repeat episodes?

    Thanks again for your help,

    FD

    Hi Pieter,

Thanks a lot for your help. Youre a life saver!

I have another thing going on which I'm concerned may be because I've deleted something important in error.
My hotmail account when I try to log in, wont recognise my password. It keeps saying retype password. I downloaded new version of MSN messenger and tried again, but no luck. Any ideas?

    Thanx
    FD

    Hi FD,

I would not trust that account to be safe and private anymore.
If it does not contain anything important, abandon it and get a new one.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hi Pieter,

I actually tried making anew Hotmail account, but again after registering it says re-type password. I think I may have deleted some important component of the MSN thing. IS there anyway I can find out what it might be?

    Thanks

    FD

You stated before you downloaded a new version of MSN. Was the install succesfull?

If so, it seems almost impossible you would be missing a component.

    Hi Pieter,

I have problems again. Greatsearchbiz.com has installed itself as the homepage. No matter how many times I change it or delete it from the HijackThis log screen, it keeps coming back!

Sorry to be a pain but please advise. Here is the HijackThis log:

    Re: GreatsearchBiz.com

    Hi FDddy,

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://greatsearch.biz/
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://greatsearch.biz/
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://greatsearch.biz/
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://greatsearch.biz/

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = http://greatsearch.biz/
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = http://greatsearch.biz/

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Services Process] C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\services.exe

    Please download and run CWShredder
Use the Fix button and follow the instructions provided by the program.

Then reboot into safe mode and delete:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\services.exe <= NOTE: only the one in that folder

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hi Pieter,

Thanks for the pointers, but I tried all you said and the problem is still persisting.
The homepage has replaced itself again as greatsearchbiz.com. The CWShredder gives a verdict of system completely clean. (Although it did stop at one point and ask me if the following file name was random string of letters and I said No. The file it flagged up was called new.exe)

When I was deleting the file services.exe in the System32/CONFIG folder, I noticed another .exe file in the folder called svchost.exe which appears to have been created today. Could this have any bearing on the problem?

    Thanks
    FD

Hmmm. Sounds like the file was replaced. Could you post a new HijackThis log?

    Regards,

    Hi Guys, :)

The problem seems to be getting worse... or perhaps its an additional thing (?). My computer runs very slowly now. :( I just ran another HijackThis log.

If you could help out, it'd be great.

    Thanks in advance. :)

    Hi Pieter,

Wow! Thanks, that seems to have cleared it... for now *gulp* :D
Hope it stays that way (fingers crossed).

Whenever I run CWShredder it always asks me if I want to delete a particular file. It asks if the file is a list of random numbers or letters and I always say no. The file is called new.exe. Should I be deleting this?

Again, thanks for all your help :)

    Take care

    FD

    1. Don't run CWShredder for the heck of it. It is best only used if you are certified infected with CWS.

    2. I have no idea what new.exe is for. It could be a lot of things. A HijackThis log might reveal something.

    Regards,

    Pieter
