I notice on a 3TB WD and 4TB Seagate drive the first partition is shown as:
    128MB Service Partition
And is is marked red as cannot be aligned.

I do not see this partition in Windows 7 x64 drive manager, so what is this Service Partition?

Also the Service Partition does not show on the other drives in the system.

    Thanks,

    Jon

Considering their capacity, these can be external non-standard disks. They can have some software to make backups or perform other functions necessary for their operation. The partition may be of a non-standard type that is not recognized by the Windows disk manager.

    Service partitions can't be aligned.
The partition you're talking about is GPT protective partition which should start from 22 sectors and can not be aligned. This partition also can not be moved or resized. It is used to protect GPT partition table and other service info.
