Along with Brians question in case that's not it....

    1) Is this your first install of Nod32
    2) What folder is the install file located in that you are attempting to install from
    3) Do you have any other anti-virus programs installed

    Hi coolkey, welcome to WIlders.

    Please complete the following:

    For Windows XP

    Click on Start
    Click on Run
    Type in cmd
    Click on OK
    Type in netsh winsock reset
(Please note there are spaces between the netsh and winsock and reset)

    Press ENTER
    Restart your computer.

If the above does not work then please download and run WinsockXPfix from HERE

    Then complete the following:

    1. Download and save to your desktop a FRESH copy of NOD32 from HERE

    • For help with downloading and installing NOD32 see HERE

    • For help with entering your Username and Password please see HERE

    2. Install the FRESH copy of NOD32 that you downloaded above using “Typical Settings”.

    3. Check your settings against those found HERE

After this I would recommend running a scan by following these steps:

    1. Click on the NOD32 Control Centre (Green and White split square on the bottom right hand corner of your computers screen).
    2. Click on NOD32.
    3. Click on Run NOD32.
    4. Click on “Scan and Clean”.

    Cheers :D

Thanks to all for the replies.
I have followed Blackspear's instructions 3 times with each option , by reseting winsock manually and by running the winsock program I downloaded as per suggested.
Still get the same error, I am afraid it is a bigger problem or maybe a problem with the NOD32 kernnel which I do not know how to fix. I had NOD32 comercial installed and then installed NOD32 portable in a folder in my flash memory. Then I unistalled both and I get the error when I try to install again. Have deleted the keys in registry, the eset folder in program files but all efforrts have had no sucess.
Thank you anyway, you all have been very helpful and this makes this forum one of the best. Keep the good work :thumb:

    Good luck to you all

    Coolkey :)

It was a version that I downloaded from a forum, it updated without the need of a pass and login.
I was doing great until I installed NOD32 portable and uninstalled both.

    Thanks

This is not the name it should have, please download the correct version of:
    This eset.com website at: http://www.eset.com/download/registered_software.php

    ---------------

    Problem: Error 120:

Cause: NOD32 doesn't have the rights/permissions to start the kernel service.

Security programs like ProcessGuard and other HIPS

(HIPS = Host Intrusion Protection System) and some other anti malware software
or changes to the permissions/rights of the user who is installing NOD32,
can prevent that the service is started.

Close or disable the above software for short while.
(be sure to remove other AV's and reboot after that)

The problem can be solved by a new install of NOD32 and select 'normal or standard install'

    Coolkey,

Correct me if I am wrong but Xtraboard is a haven for illegal Nod32 names and paaswords. Is this the case with your downloaded version of Nod32 ?

Also....this may be a coincidence but it appears someone by your same screen name @ Xtraboard enjoys sharing illegal names and passwords of the Nod32 program. Care to comment ?

It is not very clever of course to download a Anti Virus
from a website that is not from same company

Lesson 1 in security i assume: .. NEVER download anti malware from a unreliable source!

    ;)

    coolkey,

Let's forget about the possible coincidence and simply bring this support assistance thread to a close.
