When automatically updating, NOD asked to update to new version. Towards end of update it had some error and did not complete...
Noticed AMON was no longer running & would not start.
So I uninstalled NOD, downloaded the whole program from the Eset website, but when installing it get an 116 error - somrthing about the Registry.
    Help!
What can I do....it's a scary feeling not having my antivirus program running!
    TIA
    Buck

    Hi Buckbuck, welcome to Wilders.

Did you remove the Eset folder from C Drive> Program Files after you uninstalled?

    Cheers :D

    Do the following files exist?

    C Drive> Windows> Temp

    C Drive> Documents and Settings> (User Name) XXXXXX> Local Settings> Temp

    Cheers :D

I'm heading off to bed, and until someone comes along with more ideas, can you please send an email to support@nod32.com and place a link to this thread.

We would appreciate if you could keep us in the loop with your progress, as we all learn this way…

    Cheers :D

What does the full Error 116 say, for those of us who have never seen the error before? It could be that some registry key has improper permissions, so it cannot be added/modified/deleted during installation.

The error message is: Error 116. Error occurred while updating the registry!
I have contacted support (& they answered really promptly!)& Mark has been getting me to send him logs etc
Hopefully they can sort it out...

Try going into the Windows registry and delete the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Eset key. This should also delete all its subkeys. Now try installing again.

Tried that. Deleted Eset from Registry, but no change. Still get error message about error updating the Registry.
Mark from Eset support seems to have disappeared & is not answering any more....
So I am stuck with no antivirus & 4 months left of subscription.
I guess I will have to purchase a different antivirus program.

Well, the developers actually end up with that there was an error calling a standard API function. That said, there must be a problem with your oper. system and probably the only way how to remedy it is to reinstall the oper. system.

Maybe a service pack can help too :doubt:

I tried again to delete Eset key from registry. Found that there are 2 other NOD32 keys in the registry & one of them wouldn't delete (it was in the uninstall section). I had to change the permissions to enable me to delete it & voila - NOD is happily installed again....

Do you mean HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\NOD32 ? That would make sense. It was not able to update the Add/Remove Programs list (and the command line on how to actually remove it). Glad you got it sorted! :)
