Since we're talking about gaussian.. here's my beautiful boy again - edited with a gaussian blur mask of his entire body - overlayed and set to a medium opacity. It gives him a really nice glow - made warmer by an overall change in the colour (I can't remember if I changed the saturation or if I changed the colour balance... it looks like both but it was a couple of months back I did this for a little desktop background).

I cut around the eyes on the gaussian layer, so that the eyes stayed crisp and I also repainted them with more blue so that he... well... looked cuter.

Anyway, hope you enjoyed seeing my little doggie as much as I do everyday :).

    You're most welcome. ;)
I've been cleaning up and sorting all my links, but still have a long way to go. :D
A masterpiece Uguel. Love it & thanks for the detailed information.
Come on, Brad. It's gorgeous on your first try.
    Sure we do. :D
Here's my try with a radial blur:

    • Blur type: Spin
    • Strength: 1
    • Elliptical: checked
    • Horizontal & vertical offset: 0
    • Protect center: 25%
Further more I applied a Xero Porcelain effect and buttonized the grey frame.
I concur completely. He does have talent making those beautiful pictures. :D
Great pic of your dog and thanks for joining this great topic. ;)

`mishimasan` - beautifully done and a beautiful puppy too. :) I know working with guassian layers can get tricky to get the right effect in PSP....did you do this in Photoshop?

There are some excellent images happening in this thread! We have quite a few very talented members here! :D

Thankyou, he was a real poser in this picture - as always...

In a somewhat sinister answer to your post, yes - I did use Photoshop. However, since we were talking about gaussian blurs, I figured that it would work more or less the same way in Photoshop as in Paintshop. I hope I didn't break the rules of this forum...

I like your image very much Brad. :)
It is both peaceful and mysterious.
A very good effect that you applied there. :)

`mishimasan`, You have a great pic here!
Is he a Border Colly? He is very sweet! :)

Eldar, thank you too for your great wolves picture.
and all the explanations you gave. ;)

Well, I think that great minds think alike  ....dogs...wolves *puppy* *puppy* *puppy* pictures were posted and yesterday night, I did pictures of sleigh dogs. ;) I haven't applied any special effect in it though....But I think that the frame I applied in the first one matches pretty well with that kind of pic. What do you think? Don't you think that one of the dog looks like Pixel Pup? *puppy* If you have other ideas for the winter theme, please share them with us! ;)

No, not at all mishimasan. In fact, many of the same effects that can be done in Photoshop can also be done in PSP, though it may take a few more steps and finding the right tools to use to acquire those same effects....there's nothing like a challenge. ;)

Here's a quick photo of my doggie Mishi - with a colder atmosphere.

I colorized the image, and I a changed the saturation and the lightness. Then I added a plastic wrap filter. Hope you like it :D.

    My pleasure Uguel. ;)
Beautiful frame and I really like pictures of dogs and wolves a lot. The picture in itself doesn't need much of effects.
Now that you mention it, the dog does look familiar. :D
    Will do! :)
    True indeed.
Always open for a challenge. You're right about PSP needing a few more steps. It's what my friend told me too. :(
However I'm so accustomed in using PSP that I simply don't mind it. Even when I could choose to use PSP Studio, I didn't. I really love working with PSP. :p

Okay guys....let's keep on ... :) I made two new pictures with blending effects
in them. I wanted to apply a better frame than that but unfortunately, none of them really matched with that kind of pictures.... :doubt:

Let see how it goes.... ;) This effect can be done in both Paint Shop and Photoshop... :) They aren't the most original ones but remember we are learning & playing with pictures! :)

You're welcome. ;) What a first model it is!
Impressive Uguel, I saved them both. :)
    Both are well done, Brad.
You're really getting the hang of it. Keep on playing. ;)

I made also a picture with wolves. First I gave the tube a chisel effect and pasted it into the picture. Opacity set to 30% and Blend mode 'Multiply'. Afterwards I used a Gaussian Blur and added a frame.

What do you think all of it? :D

How to blend to images together

Okay, here I prepared a tutorial for those who are new to Paint Shop
Pro and would like to know a way to blend an image, or a part of it, with another one. (Keep in mind that my version of PSP is version7) ;) I will explain the main steps I followed. First I wanted two images to be blended together.

    This one....

Re: How to blend to images together

    1. First open the picture of the *wolf and duplicate it.
    Close the original.

*....or any subject that you want to stick
    onto the background.

    2. Still in the same image, remove the background colour.
...I converted the picture into a layer,
then with the Magic Wand set the tolerance=0 and the progressivity=20. Select and suppress the background.
Use the eraser for erasing manually any remains left.
Tip: Around the shape of the *wolf, you can reduce the
hardness of the eraser and its density in order to have soft edges around it. Mine was set to:

    Shapness: round
    Size:10
    Hardness:3
    Density: 100
    Thickness: 100

Depending of the results you want to achieve, those settings can vary. ;)

    See screenshot.

Re: How to blend to images together

Once you are satisfied with the results, you can open
your background picture into Paint Shop....

    3. Click and select the pic to be pasted, here the "wolf",
Go to Edit>Copy>select your background>And choose from Edit "paste it as a new layer". With the moving tool, move the "wolf" where you want it to appear in the picture. In Paint Shop 7, the moving tool is a thick black cross.

Now you can customize the way you want the transparancy to be displayed....--->Make sure that the layer of the "wolf" is highlighted<---

4.Go to the layer palette>set the property of the picture to be pasted (eg. the wolf)>unlock the transparency. Make sure there is no red, otherwise you won't be able to unlock and customize the transparency.

In my case, I chose "soft light" (lumière douce) set to 64.:)

Once you are satisfied with the results, you can save your picture on your hardrive.
