    What's new:
    * Added the new "Web Shield" resident provider for on-access scanning of HTTP traffic. Under NT-based systems, it should work automatically. On Win9x, you have to tell your browser to use HTTP proxy 127.0.0.1 on port 12080.
    * Added NNTP (Usenet News) scanner to the Internet Mail provider. Under NT-based systems, it works transparently; under Win9x, the Mail Protection Wizard will help you set up the account (Outlook Express only).
    * Added new unpacker for Outlook Express archives (.dbx files)
    * Fixed crashing of the program when it found a boot/MBR virus
    * The updater should now work with the default proxy settings even if IE is set to the "Work Offline" mode
    * Avast now distinguishes between various malware categories and reports them differently.
    * Greatly optimized memory footprint of the avast processes (especially ashServ.exe)
    * Added support for long license keys (8-digit customer number)
    * The Explorer Extension scanner should now work even under 64-bit Windows
    * Under 64-bit Windows, the scan of the SYSTEM32 directory now works correctly
    * Fixed the problem with very slow start of the avast on-access scanner service on certain Windows 2000 configurations with MS Outlook installed
    * Fixed some problems in the GZIP unpacker
    * Optimized CAB and CHM unpackers
    * Fixed problems related with on-access scanning of named pipes (Windows NT/2000/XP Standard Shield)
    * Hyperlinks in configuration property sheets now finally have correct background color
    * Attempt to fix sound-related problems under Win9x
    * Added links to certain FAQ entries on the Web
    * Avast now correctly registers in the Windows Security Center under Windows 64-bit
    * Fixed certain conflicts with copy-protected programs (AsProtect) under Win9x
    * Warnings about suspicious e-mails (heuristics) are now displayed correctly even under terminal services environments (and while using the Fast User Switching feature in Windows XP)
    * Added Romanian and Bulgarian language packs

    Thanks guys :)
Next on the roadmap is avast 5. This time, we'll see improvements not only feature-wise, but also (and most importantly) detection-wise.

But I'm talking future here :D

    Looks good ^_^

Hope it improves in its detection rate. If it does, I'm going to switch from NOD32 to Avast.

    Bugs:

    -Opens C:\Windows\System32 on System Restart
-Startup registry entry is blank. This makes avast have no system tray icon at start-up. In Spybot, it looks like this:

    HK_LM:Run avast! ""

    Should be:

    HK_LM:Run avast! "C:\Program Files\Alwil Softawre\Avast4\ashDisp.exe"

I have Windows XP Professional SP2.

Kye-U, is this with the 4.6.603 (final) version? BTW the "two" things you're saying is just one really - the empty string in the Run key is known to open the system folder on startup...

Anyway, does it help if you do a "repair" of avast from Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> Avast Antivirus -> Repair?

    Thanks
    Vlk

    "Error Loading

The specified module could not be found"

    I get this when I try to Repair/Uninstall :(

Good news that it's one bug ;)

I'd rather say corrupted registry. Had the same problem before if i wanted to enter avast! Installer controls. After restoring clean disk image everything worked with same version (beta at that time).

Only problem is that you NEED exactly the same version of installer as you have installed on your PC. Otherwise you'll have only Uninstall available as an option.

where could i download a good skin for avast........ i honestly hate the default one.

anything looking like Symantec cooperate or Mcafee VS8.0i interface would be great.

Is it the skin, that is important for you to pick an Antivirusscanner? I would go for the proper protection, but who am I to say thiso_O?
So many people, so many tastes......I guess.

Good luck with the skin and I really hope your skin will protect your PC.....

Some people prefer the look or functionality over detection rate. However, avast! has both and so does Symantec.

It's nothing wrong with that. Thats why we have so many skins to choose from (hopefully even more in the future).
If you like something similar to McAfee interface i suggesst Lite-On,Corporate,RejZoR-Sharp,MacLover OS X or SZC-KDE.
These skins have a more classic antivirus interface design.
