I'm surprised it's as updated as that. I'm on the verge of removing the search engine from my site. There is so much that it doesn't list that there's no use sending anyone there.

So is it toast, Mike? There doesn't appear to be anything official, but other sites, like MtM's still have the link. That's why I was wondering.

At one time it was a good resource, but it hasn't kept up to date. It still lists older stuff like Gator, but newer stuff bring up no results.

I sent a message from the Spychecker site with my email addy, asking, basically, what was up. Maybe they'll respond. If they do, I'll update this post.

    Hey Mike,

What do you think of SuraSoft's site?

    http://www.surasoft.com/spywaredb/

    Is it more up-to-dateo_O

Best alternative to Spychecker in your opinion? By the way, saw your mention in tonight's Langa List. Congrats. It never hurts when Fred mentions your site. I just wish he would quit peddling PestPatrol like he does.

Thanks. I just wish he hadn't made it sound like I was trying to tell people to buy 4 different products all at once. I was just listing 4 of the best options I knew of.

That site doesn't seem to be much better. It listed only cydoor for Kazaa, and I know that Kazaa bundles about 5 or 6 different spywares. It didn't list Morpheus or xolox. It got cuteftp, but then it missed GoZilla!!!!! That's one of the oldest bundlers of spyware.

TomCat has a good site. It doesn't list everything in existence, only what people submit to them, but it's the best I've found so far for cross referencing spyware with spyware host

There is http://www.spywareguide.com/, but that only lists the spyware program itself, not what bundles it, and it's not fully built yet, but it's still a pretty good resource. This is owned by Xblock so don't be surprised if there's a pitch for xcleaner somewhere.

Thanks, Mike. Sounds like there is a big void needing to be filled. Is there any way you could get the kind of help required to host a database? It would make spywareinfo a kind of one-stop shop!

Yes, I agree about Fred. I think he misinterpreted your letter. I read it and thought it was very well written and very clear. At least the site was mentioned and he agreed with you on your assessment of AdAware. I imagine he gives a big one or two day boost on hits?

    Keep up the good work!

    All the best,

Oh, only about 10,000 or so extra visitors over the following 2 days ;)

As for a database, I don't have time to maintain something like that. That's the biggest problem with that is the time it takes building it and keeping it updated. Best I can offer is that specific "Is this infected?" forum at my board where people can ask. If I don't know the answer, someone else will.

Indeed, I see maintaining a database as a monstrous job.

As for the increased number of visitors to the site after the Langa mention, I am stunned! 10,000? That is incredible! Let's hope that even 10% came away more informed. My guess is that more than a few stayed around to read some, and with all of the valuable info you have -your site has once again proved how worthwhile a destination it is. Thanks for all the hard work you put into it.

    Thank you.

It seems like every couple of months month it's either Langa or Lockergnome or both giving me press, and everytime they send a huge number my way, I keep that number from that point forward.
September, November, and December were months where one or both gave me good mentions. Look at the numbers

If I could find a quicker way to deal with all the bloody email that comes in, I could get more done. My forums keep me busy too. Sooner or later I intend to get pages up listing each known spyware, adware, and hijacker and if nothing else have a link to the best sources of information about them. Most of the links would be to doxdesk, cexx, and spywareguide, but there's a few others out there that are pretty good
