I just bought TrueImage 8.0 in the box after trying the Free Trial version off
the internet. In both cases I could not get the program to burn a CD-R
boot disk. I get an ERROR message box which says "Error burning the
bootable CD-R/RW". Nothing else. I have a Sony CD-RW model CRX230E installed internally. I can burn CD-RW and CD-R in it using ZE Creator 5/7
or Nero ROM Buring software. I can make a set of bootable floppies with
either program. The build number is 768 for the boxed version, I downloaded
and installed the 786 upgrade. Guess what? Same problem. I'm using
Windows 2000 Pro with all the latest patches and updates.

Well, I'm a little bit confused about the subject of your message
So I think I'll just focus on the message itself...lol.

This is pretty common problem. You can search on this forum and find lots of people having same problem. Here is one good thread with lots of things you can try to get it to work:
    https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=51153

However, in the end if nothing works, if you have registered your product, you can email acronis support and ask them for a link to the ISO image for the bootable Rescue CD. Be sure to specify Build 786 just to be sure you get the right link. They can't post the link here, for obvious reasons.

Then just burn the ISO to CD and you should be good to go. Good luck!

    Problem burning bootable CD

Thanks for the info. I've already submitted a report, but that was just after I
posted this message. I hope they fix this problem in the next update. It may
be awhile before they respond to my post and my report. It's strange that
I didn't find this subject already in the forums if it is fairly well known.

    Found the Problem!

The problem is with the current release of Roxio software, which includes a
automatic task called Drag-to-Disk. It generally sits as an icon on the lower
    right part of your desktop.

Drag-to-Disk will automatically format any blank disk that is inserted in your
CD-RW drive. TrueImage expects that you are going to insert an unformatted
disk, and will give you an error if it is already formatted.

There are two ways to circumvent this problem: First, for your original effort
to create a bootable CD, you need to right click on the Drag-to-Disk icon and
exit it. Then when you insert an unformatted CD, it will remain unformatted.

The second way is to use the Disk Copy function provided by Nero or Roxio
and copy the original install CD. Just because the CD is already formatted is
    not a problem.

The thing that Acronis should do, is change their check from looking for just
an unformatted disk, to looking for a formatted disk that it can still create a
boot disk from that has sufficient free space for the needed files. That will
accomodate Drag-to-Disk without telling users that they have to disable it
    first.

Yeah, Roxio is one of the known culprits. So that fix works for a lot of people - I've seen it mentioned in some of the threads on this topic. I don't use Roxio so couldn't tell ya.
