I checked my settings as per the thread before I posted to this thread. I removed and reinstalled a new copy of nod32. It now appears to update automatically but the log still shows the same error.
Yes I am using a dialup connection. Is it possible the error is occuring because nod32 is trying to contact the servers but is unable to detect when I have connected to the internet? If so can a schedule be set up to fix this? I have a schedule set up to update once per day but it appears that the update is happening several times per day.

I am on adsl using dhcp. I get errors everyday when I boot up the first time. I turn my computer off when not in use.
For the remainder of the time I am online, even while rebooting, I get no errors.
I assume from this behaviour, that the errors in the log have something to do with me getting my renewal established at my isp.

Do your maintain a dialup connection at all times or just when you are going online?

Ok, it is as I thought, I discovered this exact same issue last week with my Uncles computer. I checked his logs and found the same error message. After trying all sorts of things including reinstalls I contacted Eset and was advised this is due to the order in which the scheduled updates are sorted from top downwards.

With a Broadband permanent connection (ADSL, Cable etc) by default Nod32 will look for updates every hour, and be connected to the servers. Being that you have a dial-up connection you have to change that Scheduled Hourly Update to the 2nd item listed in the Scheduler/Planner window.

By default Nod32 checks for updates as soon as internet connection is made and then every hour after that. When you are "offline" it can't find the server, it then reports such instances as a server connection error, this is what you are seeing within your logs and I am seeing within my Uncles logs.

There is nothing to worry about, this is perfectly normal on a dialup connection, however, it is a minor bug with Nod32, and from what I understand it will be addressed sometime in the future.

    Hope this helps...

    Cheers :D

    Blackspear,
I have the same errors using my dell laptop and a wifi connection.
Same reasons as for dial-up ?

    Thanks !

Hi Luc12, when you do establish a internet connection, does Nod32 then update?

If you remain on the internet for more than 1 hour does it attempt an update every hour?

    Cheers :D

Well I am glad that is all cleared up. My only other question is I am sure that when I had the free download version installed I did not receive any errors. Why would this be? I was still using dial up and the connection also was not maintained all the time. I only dialled up when I needed to. Sometimes I was connected for more than an hour sometimes less.

    Hi all
I have a adsl and usb modem, and everytime i had the same errors as above.

I have found the way to get rid of the update errors,it updates now automaticly witout errors, after I have turn on the second option in the scheduler:Automatic update after dial up connection has been establed, CHANGE the setting to look repeatedly after one hour and with the settings on lan\fixed line....!!

No more errors on startup en it perfectly updates every one hour ,hope it will helps you too...

I think I have one of these collectors items too.

Can't get it to update directly or through the proxy.

    Available servers:
    www.nod32.com
    www.eset.sk
    www.esetsoftware.com

When I try adding other servers like
u3.eset.com results in the program telling me "Incorrect address specified"

Anything easier then downloading a new copy and trying again would be nice. :)

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hi blackspear,

All setting i have are correct, but still have the update issue, paranoia as i am, i do not like too look everytime if i am having the new virusdefinitions, so i am waiting for a new version of nod32 that will not have this issue and i do not have to bother about having updates or not..... :'(
I am back with panda for now again, but keep looking out for a new one of nod32

That's rather akward - updated after you posted (see screen cap). Did you try "choose automatically" as an alternative?

Got it updated. The program needed internet acces in my firewall in two directions.
I only gave it permission outgoing.
    (~That wasn't very bright~)

But it remains strange that you can't add valid servers to the list.

    Regards,

    Pieter

I noticed the same thing when setting up our enterprise install. I think NOD32 is expecting either an URL, UNC, or drive location when you try to add a server(s). So trying "u2a.eset.com" will not work but "http://u2a.est.com" will. Or "\\server\share" is acceptable too.

    Pieter,

Glad it all worked out in the end - an I've done far more stupid things along the way

As for adding servers: in principal there's no need for doing so in case one picks the option 'choose automatically'. New servers will be added that way as soon as Eset sets up another one.

    regards.

i have a "u2.eset.com" showing, but i am not seeing a "u2a.eset.com".. i have been using "u2.eset.com" for updates, but twice lately, the updates were downloading extremely slow from there, so i just now switched it to "u6.eset.com".. i will see how that works out..

You are better off leaving the server setting as "Choose Automatically".

    Cheers :D
