background information i had b's clip; win xp home.

i have spent an awful long time trying to image my hard drive with no success. acronis wants the disc preformatted a certain way. that way is: format it using a UDF packet DVD-writing software. Iam using B's clip. Fortunately B's clip is a udf packet dvd -writing software program.

but when i start with the imaging i get these 2 horrible error messages.

E00040004 Disk is full. A possible reason maybe poor media quality.
    or
E00040003 Erro writing the file. A possible reason may be poor media quality.

Now i bought three different dvd-rw media... imation, tdk and sony. all with the same error messages.

So i switched to Nero and added InCD and i still get the same error messages.

so what can i do? o_O

    thanks,
    cm

Did you format the discs ahead of time? As in right click on the InCD icon?

yes i did format with nero's InCD ahead of time- quick format and "the long way". still got the error messages.

with b's clip- i would not have to format, cause it does it on the fly and the same messages but i format it. it did not make any difference- it just would give different error messages. :'(

btw nero and b's clip should not be installed at the same time. that much i learned.

    Hi, cityman

Have you tried making the Image to you HDD. [Slave HDD if you have one]

Then burning to a Clean DVD. [unformatted]

    DVD+RW seem to work best.

    Hello --

Yeah, please try to first image your drive to your HDD and then burn it with your InCD ot Nero to DVDs. This issue (not writing properly sometimes to rewriteable DVDs, CDs) is already being taken care of and we hope that the next build will fix this problem.

    Thank you.

When do you think the next build will be out? i look forward to your remedy.
Does it make a difference if it is a DVD+RW? rather than a DVD-RW?

    thank you.

    Hello --

    1) Yeah, there is some difference between DVD-RW and DVD+RW :) And indeed +RW work better, at least with Acronis True Image.

    2) The new build is expected within a week. I believe the problem will be fixed there.

    Thank you.

Re: UDF-error message using internal DVD+RW

i was able to definitely burn to a third partititon and then i used dvd +rw and with nero, i got absolutely no place.

    nero asked -

what version of udf to use- v 1.05, v 1.50 and some other numbers.

what partition to use- physical, virtual or some other one?

nero also asked- no multisession or multisession?

    --
i was able to use dvd- rw and it burned well BUT, but the validation failed. so i tried again... not sure what version of udf to use, and what partition to use and of course the question of multisession- what to useo_O

    help please. :D

    Hi, cityman

You do not need to use UDF.

UDF is only needed if you make an Image with the BootDisk to DVD Media. [I have never tried it]

Just burn the Image with Nero.
    Unformatted [New or Erased] DVD+RW

    Nero Express>Data>Data Disc>Add>Browse To your Image>Add>Finished>next>Burn.

Depending on the size of your Image's You can Burn more to the same DVD.

This is done with Multisession. [Defult]

    Take Care,
    TheQuest

PS: I never use UDF any more. [more troubl than it worth IMHO]

thanks for the information. it was certainly useful.

    --
i bought maxwell brand of dvd+rw. and then i proceeded to make copies. however, it was not that simple. i would follow your instructions (i had to burn three disks) and the first one went well. but the last two disks was receiving an error message- illegal disk- and i have no idea. since i bought a 5 pack, i used four of them and all gave the error message of - illegal disk.

i was able to re-try and now 2 of the 3 are working..

i am getting tired of not being able to complete the last disk.

i am thinking is: the problem is with the speed burning. the fastest my dvd can move it - 2x. but there is a message saying the computer goes - 2.4x faster. i think that is why - the dvd+rw is will come back.

this summer will get interesting. i am wondering if i have problem.

    ---
rather than doing any more research/help. i decided to see if i used DVD-RW by Sony i might get better results. well i tried just three times; the first two burns went well. but the last used DVD+ RW just stall at while is 98% through.. the program hangs. so there we have it.

i am not sure of anything.

    take care,

    steve

    Hi, cityman

Sorry to hear you are still having trouble steve.

    DVD+RW are the best.

    Sorry for more questions.

How big is your Image? Three DVD's is about 14GB's. [written]

When you made the Image did you use full compression? [that what I do]

What drive [letter] did you Image?

Where is the Image stored? [drive letter]

Do not Image a Drive or HDD where you store you Image's.

When you burn your can alter the burn speed to suite you burner 2x.

When you erase any old DVD use the Full Erase not Quick

Please come back any time with more questions we will find your problem.

    Take Care,

    Thanks Quest for your assistance.

    you wrote:Sorry for more questions.

Here are the answer to the questions. i am glad you are helping.

How big is your Image? Three DVD's is about 14GB's. [written]

i used three dvd's. 1.9gb,1.9gb and 500 mg. you cannot go higher than 2gb.

When you made the Image did you use full compression? [that what I do]

    no i used- normal.

What drive [letter] did you Image?

the drive letters was c and d. .

Where is the Image stored? [drive letter]
    they imaged to f.

Do not Image a Drive or HDD where you store you Image's.
    yes that is true.

When you burn your can alter the burn speed to suite you burner 2x.

yes that is true but in my case, nero would not allow it. when i inserted the DVD+RW, it automatically went to max speed and did not allow any other choices. i know about writing speed as you showed in the picture. i could not believe it myself. the dvd recorder (pioneer) only maxs out at 2x and here the programs is making it go 2.4.

i was lucky to burn 2 of the three dvd+rw. the 1st burn was fine; the 2nd was repeated (it said: illegal disk and ended that) .. so i tried again. the 3rd was impossible. i repeated 3x. then enough: i switched to DVD-RW.

When you erase any old DVD use the Full Erase not Quick

this i did not know. i would use quick. but the dvd+rw, were fresh out of the box.
    ---

one comment: with regards to the writing speed being fixed at 2.4 i think that was the problem and why it the error message was - illegal disk. what do you think? i would set up the burning at 1x and then, only then, i put the dvd+rw, the program of nero would convert the writing speed to 2.4x. i have no idea. when i used the dvd-rw. that did not happen.

    Hi, cityman

    Two drives, three Images ?

Best to make an Image of them all in one.

Best to compress, saves space I use the highest. [Best IMHO]

No quick is like deleting a file, the file name changed and is still there,
    too easy to get corruption.

Full erase is the same as Secure Deleting. [but better]
take Much Longer but you SHOULD always use it. [take approx 30mins]

Have you tested with Nero Toolkit>Nero info tool. [with blank disk in drive]

I'll be back later must get some rest.

re:two drives and three images. remember you are not allowed to make any dvd greater than 2gb. it does not work that way with acronis. in their faq's they write regarding the two step method (that i used)- quote--We recommend you to set the image archive splitting size to 2GBytes on the Image Archiving Splitting Screen, as the maximum size of a file stored on DVD is 2 GBbytes, as generally the maximum size of file stored in DVD is 2 GBytes

re:full compress is good to know. i used normal only because i felt it was safer.

re: full erase- good to know. i was not thinking about corruption.

re: nero toolkit- i will try it

thanks for your help and hope you had a real good rest. :)

    i was using Nero'sToolkit,DVD-CD Speed.

i put in a blank DVD+RW disc, i used F9 to create a date disk. i got this error- Power Calibration Area Error (037303).

i did this a 2nd time- same message.

did this with a different DVD+RW disc and - same message.

now i tried this with a blank DVD-RW and it is now testing everything; the speed is 1.03.

***unusual thing here- dvd+ gets an error and dvd- is fine.*** i have no idea why?
    --
the testing- it is taking a long-g-g-g time. is there any particular test we are looking at? they have: transfer rate, DAE quality, access/seek time, cpu usage, burst rate, and spin up and down.

if there are any important ones, then i can proceed faster.

    thanks and thanks

the results of the data disc- 1.03x speed both ways.type was clv and it was a dvd-rw and 4.3gb

the transfer rate was: 3.05x average, 1.69 start, 4.08 end.

it will be easier if i know which test are you recommending.

    thanks

    Hi, cityman

    Nero info tool

You have the advantage as I do not know what F9 does.

F9 creates a data disk. what ever that is. it probably gets the disk ready for writing on it.

since you suggest nero toolkit, what were you thinking of? :)
