Thank you, so the Mail Shield in this case is of no need.

I just loaded the latest Avast Free ( 8.0.1488 ). Secureline is integrated into the UI, but it looks like you subscribe to it separately for one year or one month intervals. You can also start a 24 hour trial. I don't know of any reason not to trust it as much as any other VPN provider.

    Re: Avast Free Antivirus 8.0.1483.73

Recently I downloaded Avast Free 8.0.1488.286; I am currently using Microsoft Security Essentials. Before I uninstall MSE and install Avast Free I wanted to ask a few questions.

My OS is Windows XP Pro, sp3. I have realtime MalwareBytes Anti-Malware, WinPatrol, and Zemana Antilogger; I have on demand SUPERAntiSpyware. Does anyone know if these programs are compatible and will play nice together. I additionally have Returnil, Shadow Defender, and Sandboxie all of which I use manually.

As always I will appreciate all replies and would thank you in advance.

Should work fine as they are all different layers of security.

The on demands should be fine BUT on all of them (IMHO you have too many) set them ALL to mutually exclude each other or you will scan and check checkers on the checkers.

Which one is your firewall the #1 tool we need?

I would temporarily disable the "real time" aspect of MBAM, Winpatrol and ZAL, and re-enable them after the install. I can't say it's necessary, but that way you can be certain they won't interfere.

Please summarize that video if you would please? I translated the comments but from them I could find nothing about the results in that test.

How can you refer to problems before an update which was released not long ago? I'm quite sure they've addressed them...

Those issues were found in March when the newest version came out. I believe, someone correct me if wrong, there has been 2-3 updates since then. I'm sure the newest updates have fixed the majority of these issues.

The Best is to watch the whole video and consider that...keep in mind the tester scanned the files left over in the packs with HMP and EAM to see the detection differences. But the ending and final HMP scan is the one with that matters :D

That's been my pet peeve with avast, in that for the last year or so their updates have been wildly unpredictable with the compatibility/stability issues that many users suffered. Until that trend has vastly improved I would recommend staying away from avast as well.

There's always the potential for incompatibility with security software, so it's always good to be prepared to remove it if necessary. Regarding the free AVs they are all subsets of the subscription products, so other than having fewer features I don't expect less. Regarding Avast specifically, I've installed v7 and now v8 on numerous computers and so far have not encountered any real "show stoppers" - my point is that not everyone does.

I didn't look to the end of the video but testing anything without execution is pointless because you're leaving out a large chunk of protection which only works on execution (Auto Sandbox for example).

    Re: Avast Free Antivirus 8.0.1483.73

I watched it again, and cannot tell what the results are. It seemed Avast missed stuff but I could not tell if the entire sample of files was then scanned by Hitman Pro (which I guess found less than Avast, which makes Avast look good) or did it just scan the ones Avast did not get (in which case it found most of what Avast did not, making Avast look bad.)

I assume from your comment that either Avast did very well or did horribly bad if your comment was sarcastic - not sure which.

    Dudes...pretty simple :

First he set the autosandbox to ask (that's why you can see those big popups).
He extracted some samples (malwares samples judging by the icons so no PUP or stuffs like that...)
Then he executed the unknown malwares :
EvoGen/Autosandbox/FileRepMalware : did prevent all the infections.

I thought maybe that the first view, but then people wrote the Hit Man Pro scan at the end was key, and it found trojans. That made me question if this was bad or good for Avast.

Yes,the Final HMP scan found 2 things and 1 suspicious item...that's very good results for avast...and sometimes he scanned the malware folder with HMP and EAM so there can be a obvious confusion.

    Hi.
On my computer with avast 8 and comodo firewall 5.12 that problem does not exist.
I can successfully block firefox from connecting to the network.
In fact i can block anything so there is no conflict on my machine.
