Google Chrome Settings Keep Re-Enabling Itself

I have tried to disable all Chrome settings that can compromise my privacy. All have been fine, but one

"Predict network actions to improve page load performance"

Keeps re-enabling itself every time I close Chrome.

Does this happen to anyone else? Is it even a threat to my privacy?

 

Do you use CCleaner? If so, the new version resets that setting each time. I posted a bug report on Piriform Forums, but it has gone ignored.

Try unchecking that setting, then open & close Chrome without using CCleaner, and that should verify the problem is from CCleaner:

Too bad Piriform doesn't seem to care. I no longer use CCleaner.

 

I have never installed Chrome because of the privacy issues surrounding its use. Could you please list the settings that need to be disabled to maximize privacy?

IMHO use srware iron its the same deal more or less with out the data mining vampire action.

Google Update~ use to camp the computer and keep spamming connections to Google ip's even if the app that it came with was uninstalled,don't know if it still douse that and don't feel like researching the topic atm.

Google re-enable privacy settings~ pending....more research needed.

none the less i don't agree all of what insanitybit has to say in your link,Google update is a pos and i have dealt with it in the past and it use to show up with Google earth.
its were i saw it first and even if you uninstalled earth back in the day the updater would camp your computer and still phone home once per 2 sec or something ~ permanently.

your link douse shed some light on the topic though,so ill take it back and scrap the iron recommendation, and i stand corrected on at lest some points.

feel free to update the wiki if you feel like it in your free time with the "truth"

Yes, the updater isn't removed with the uninstaller. There was a bug reported a while back, and Chromium developers 'Won't Fix'd" it, they stated that it was a bug with the Windows Task Scheduler. The installer itself doesn't seem to pose any privacy concern that I can think of, as it's open source and can be verified to only send/ receive legitimate data. It's the same installer used in Comodo Dragon.

Coincidentally I've just gotten 2 referrer hits from wikipedia. It seems someone has linked me on the Iron Browser discussion page.

Howabout bleachbit? Does it effectively clean chrome data without disturbing the settings?

There is an extension called Privacy Manager, where you can turn off all that google crap like spelling service, search suggestions, and a ton more settings. Set it once and your done.

Do you know if that attitude is common for them? I had once an issue with Outlook unable to open links in emails giving an error message. I looked it up and found an article that said in 90% of the case it was because of uninstallation of Chrome leaving much stuff behind and setting itself as standard link opening program for Outlook in the registry but not fixing the key upon uninstall. I had indeed recently uninstalled Chrome because it sneakily installed with an Avast program update. I had to reset all IE settings and quite a few registry keys as well but luckily MS created a Fix-it for those. That article was back then already 2 years old and a friend recently had the same problem because the Chrome uninstaller still wasn't improved back then even though it was a well known issue.
