how to diagnose slow boot

are there any programs like bootvis that work on windows 7 x64. i have tried going into the event logger, but all i can get is loads of ID codes but no specific program names or locations.

is there any programs that can monitor programs that load on startup or maybe a friendly log screen.

i know the problem is with startup programs because after loading windows has finished, everything runs smoothly and without any unexpected delays.

 

Before you look at TP programs, take a look at the killable entries in MSConfig - quick reference here.

Is there really nothing comprehensive in Event Viewer? - sometimes I've seen drivers failing to load, for example, (usually HP stuff) and killing the Auto start of these services in Services.msc can do the trick and restore quick boot time.

You could also take a look at Autoruns, which will uncover possible slow-boot culprits.

thanks for all the replies, but i was hoping for a program that monitors startup and shows a list of the time programs to start and allow me to pinpoint programs that are causing delays. in earlier versions of windows bootvis would help, but that no longer works in windows 7

not lightweight imo download and install took 12 min.
software depend on the complete net-framework to do its thing so installer downloaded the complete package.
you have to register and have to create a pasword to activate .
what a hasle to just look upon processes and stuff.

You could try StartUpLite from MalwareBytes.

 

They have now made it a web application. The desktop client as you know it is no longer being offered.

I tried that on a Win7 laptop I was working on. Actually, it made things worse. Had a lot of disk thrashing afterwards. Just a heads up for anyone wanting give it a try. The report files are pretty though.
