I only use WinRAR and will never change it!

I just love its interface and find no reason to ditch it

I still remember when i had my first computer (Back in 2001) i always used WinZip, like a year or two later i started using WinRar and i've never looked back again.
WinRar works perfectly and have never failed me so why change it. :D

    I don't use it as I don't need it. I use Total Commander's built-in utilities.

I remember finding a minor useful feature of Peazip that 7-zip did not have, just can't remember what it was though, but have used Peazip for a long time.

    7-Zip has everything I need

I use 7-Zip to encrypt my archived files, and to unzip certain file types.

I like 7-Zip because it has all the features I need, with no over done UI.

Yes, you've already stated that in a post in this very thread... you really like the preach the software you use.

Yes I do, reason being that it compresses zip files better than WinZip. I'm not interested in other obscure formats such as 7z or RAR, rather stick with the commonly used one.

Yes, I use it alongside PeaZip (based on 7-Zip, with some extra features like archive conversion, password manager, secure delete), as 7z format has strong encryption and very efficient compression - high compression ratio but good speed on multi-core PCs.
If you have to stay on zip format instead for compatibility reasons, 7-Zip handles it well and provides optimized compression, so zip files are smaller than ones created by WinRar or WinZip but still compatible with any other archive manager.

No, zip and unzip is built into PowerDesk and that's what I use.

Yes I do. Why not? - it's free, constantly undergoing enhancements and maintaining OS compatibility by the developer, and it works great.

7-Zip was a godsend when I discovered it many years ago.

Before that, I'd been stuck with WinRAR and Winzip and all the others. Never liked them, and archives were always a pain to deal with.

It would have been a better poll to ask what archiving utility we use.

I use WinRAR. Light and simple.

USA still the best. But barely.
Tried the rest. 7zip is the best & is FOSS.

Edit: LOL. Just remembered I used to send my friends 7z files & links to 7z files so they'd have to use it. Still do *mostly* cause that's how I roll (files that is). :)

Does anyone know of a good archive file compression comparison chart?

I thought Wikipedia used to have one, but although they have a lot of information about various archive file types, they don't seem to show compression comparisons for the various archive file types.

When I first started using the computer I used WinZip, then I got interested in compression, so I looked around and try a few others. I always came back to 7-zip.

What are the benefits of using 7-Zip or WinRar over the built in Windows 7 "Extract all" tool?

I use 7-Zip Portable because it is stable, has the features I need, doesn't waste system resources and doesn't require money.

Support for decompressing .rar and .7z, for example.

I find it easier to use because of the context menu. And, of course it handles other formats as was mentioned above.

I wish they'd update the really dated-looking UI though. All it would take is a handful of icons.
