Yeah saw that on some other websites earlier today. But yeah, you have to be careful when downloading and installing apps.

Webroot and Dr.Web are already taking over the Android market. Webroot is especially appealing because it offers a friends list to text a password to so you can lock your phone and erase the data if it gets lost.

But in all seriousness 4 days and 21 applications. It was stopped rather fast and this is to be expected. Android is a rapidly growing and evolving OS. By 2012 they are expected to be the second leading OS on the market following the Symbian and they have already accomplished that feat. They are sitting at 25.5% market share and the iOS is sitting at 16.7%.

Both Norton and AVG has well working android software too, with malware scanner, wipe/lock/trace features if device gets stolen.

 

Google is going to have to make some serious changes pretty soon, else we all know where this is headed. I can't believe Google screwed this up.

 

Oh please. Its one of the glories of having an open app market. Censor the app market and its just an open source iPhone. Half of those apps have bogus names and people should have been weary from the start.

Thanks for the heads up. I use Lookout (though its not really a full av if you ask me). I also use something called Seek Droid (which is used for locating your phone, wipe (including sd card) and more.)

I will make the switch to Eset when their product becomes available for sure. But Im careful about what I install on my phone app wise, so Im not too concerned at the moment.

All of this malware requires a user to purposely install it, as far as I can tell. There is nothing much that can be done to stop this as long as Google allows the app market to remain open with no oversight. This is the main reason people choose Android over iPhone, so it's sort of a catch-22.
