Hi. If I do a On Demand Scan from the right+click context menu Scan with ESET Smart Security ESS finds a virus but it just will not do anything about it unless I actually use Advanced Options > Clean

    why ?

what's the point in having Scan with ESET Smart Security if it's actually going to do nothing ?

More Control, not everyone wants to clean, but rather a diagnostic of the system' state.

That is how it is designed? Now that you know use Clean and not just Scan.

Also, if you do a scan from the ESET window, cleaning is normally activated (Scan without cleaning - disabled)
Clean files option is equivalent to "Scan and clean" in the version 2

Ah I see, diagnosing a system would be quite useful to some people, but surely not the majority of users as a default action.

maybe it's just me that's been caught out by this commands feature.

thanks for the answers and yes; I still like the product and it's mad amount of configurability... even if it does things that I don't quite expect.

As I said before, Scan and clean is the default action if you perform the scan through the ESET'main window.
Is the same as if you invoke the "Advanced options > Clean files" command

You can customize the context menu options in the advaced setup. For instance, you can change the order of the scan / clean options or completely disable whichever you want.

@Toxin.. I don't know why I don't use the GUI for scanning, maybe its because I think of all AV progs as doing just one thing and doing that automatically with the GUI there for turning things on and off.

that's a very useful option to have. I didn't realise it could be changed and it's nice to know ESET have put thought into how different people use their pc's.
