ok i am asking something very silly but i am new to that conky thing can any help me to tell how to set it and configure it so far i get this http://maketecheasier.com/how-to-create-a-minimal-and-beautiful-desktop-with-conky/2008/10/30 http://maketecheasier.com/configuring-conky-the-very-easy-way/2010/08/24
mack_guy, I also only discovered conky about 4 weeks ago. This should get you on your way:- http://linuxowns.wordpress.com/2008/04/04/create-a-custum-conky-setup/ http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=928168&highlight=conky rythmbox Here is my config (sshot link at the bottom) http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/218088-conky?p=5210953&viewfull=1#post5210953 Have fun, and seasons greetings ! PS. I must admit that for me it was a rather fiddly and time consuming process, so that I certainly won't be very active in changing anything soon, A screenlet comes close to doing a nice job as well and can be configured in minutes.
thanks very much for your kind helo ocky i'll check i also find something this hope helpfull for others as well (sound is pretty low) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bClGJEMQVcU
Forgot to mention, if you want the conky rythmbox stuff you will need the conkyrythmbox package for your version here .. https://launchpad.net/~conky-companions/ archive/ppa/ packages Also, if you use Ubuntu 10.10 you will get an error message: /usr/bin/python2: not found One needs to create a softlink to python 2.6 from python 2: sudo ln -s /usr/bin/python2.6 python2 (in usr/bin) Add Conky to your Applications>System Tools menu by creating a launcher .. To quit .. type 'killall conky' in terminal. All this stuff is in the Ubuntu forum link of my previous post. There is also Conky Weather (for which you would need the conkyforecast package from the above mentioned ppa)....http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=869328&highlight=conky weather That was too convoluted for me so I used accuweather where one doesn't have to register, but also doesn't get all the nice weather fonts etc.
You may have to delay the start of conky so it does not hide behind the desktop, especially in gnome. If so follow post no 4 here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=386078 Also go to any distros community forum and you'll find .conkyrc files that you can steal and tweak to your needs. The thread in the ubuntu forum is huge with hundreds of different conky configurations available. Here:- http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=281865
One thing that bafffles me with conky is how to show drive temperatures. I am running hddtemp as a daemon and the temps for my sda & sdb are shown perfectly in gkrellm, but nothing in conky. It is a permissions issue as far as I can fathom. My netcat result:- |/dev/sda|WDC WD740GD-00FLC0|26|C||/dev/sdb|WDC WD1500HLFS-01G6U0|26|C| (for cut command used 30-31 for sda and 67-6eight for sdb). But.. Now would the undermentioned be the only way ? Not too keen given the warning. @mack_guy When I add the cpu freq line I also get 2.00GHz but I have 2.66 (x4) I wonder why. Hopefully someone can explain. Edit: I see now, it is set to ondemand in Ubuntu by default. If you run a cpu intensive task mine rises from 2.00GHz to 2.66GHz. To find out the available scaling frequencies cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_available_frequencies My result was 2664000 1998000 (Hz I presume). See also here: http://www.ubuntugeek.com/howto-change-cpu-frequency-scaling-in-ubuntu.html http://www.webupd8.org/2010/12/cpu-frequency-scaling-appindicator.html Increases to 2.66 GHz while running BitDefender scanner...
