Avast free isn't 5.1 yet. It downloads as 5.1 but installs as 5.0.677. I've been trying it for the last hour. No update on avast forum or change log. I'm not sure about pro or AIS.

They usually always run a beta of each pending update/upgrade before release. I don't see how this 5.1 version is possible yet...  :)

I had already installed the "new" version. I suggest you do the same then check the version. I'll say it one more time. 5.1 is not out yet. The version that you are posting is incorrect. It might say 5.1 on the installer but the program installed is 5.0.677. No word from avast forum or website. Check your programs before posting. Thanks.

Yesterday it have downloaded the program update but when I checked it still displays as 5.0.677. And yes there is no information about it in their forums. Now the update is not going well also....:thumbd:

It has Digital sig. from Dec-03-2010 and version 5.1.677.

Maybe it has some kind of time trigger to install the new version ?

Look at this thread at avastForums....

    http://forum.avast.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=81f1417ddc89b3a42abf0b8c37b97b65&topic=66855.0

they do not know or know a definite date for the release of avast 5.1... or something...? Some of the answers/replies are just so...(one aswer was to update the user profile...jeez)

it should be avast developers who should drop by there and answer that question at point so it will not confuse users. :thumbd:

IT IS THE OLD ONE. I downloaded it and was @#%&*!!! it's the same as 5.0.677...

I have never understood the reason behind public beta testing. Most have no clue what they are testing and how to do it properly. If they have skipped that painful process I have a more respect for Avast :) I take their silence as a good sign.

Don´t know how hard it would be to find 50 or so dedicated beta-testers who actually have the ability and motivation to do proper testing. That is what they should do.

You need to dump it out tho thousands of users to find if something slipped by. This is a smart move. If you don't hear a large group with problems you can make it Gold Master.

Guys, this is not the real v5.1.

It's just the normal build 5.0.677 with the latest virus defs bundled.
The fact that the version info in the installer says 5.1 is a mistake caused by the fact that the systems are now getting ready for the real v5.1...

Of course, once v5.1 is released (either beta or gold) it will be properly announced.

    Sorry for the confusion.

    Thanks
    Vlk

    Quote from VLK:
"Avast 5.1, due next month, will not really have any meaningful differences besides improved malware removal/cleaning (I mean, it will have quite a few new features - such the 64-bit boot time scan and new stuff in the Behavior Shield - but none of these features are that related to the topic of this thread). V5.1's main feature is the central administration (i.e. a feature not really interesting to end users) - and it will also be marketed this way (as a corporate product, essentially)."

Hello. Can anyone tell me how to open a port in Avast's firewall - I don't see such an option as with any regular firewall?
