    Good for the ACLU etc :thumb: Hope they win for ALL our sakes.

    But it looks like in this age, there may be no alternative to encrypting the entire HDD. I just hope such lawsuits keep such encyrption schemes and tools legal.

    Better, IMHO, is to carry a netbook that boots a read-only filesystem -- and access whatever you need from secure websites.

    Not sure that the ACLU lawsuits are the way to go but I do agree that searching laptops at the border is useless. Sure, you occasionally catch someone with kiddie porn but what does that have to do with border security?
    A serious "bad guy" will encrypt sensitive data on the laptop. A sophisticated "bad guy" will keep nothing but a clean OS on his laptop and securely transfer the data after crossing the border.
