First ever antivirus in Browser: Epic Browser

Tried it, you can add mozilla/Firefox add-ons etc, so nice one

 

Thanks kees.. Actually I haven't tested it. Is the AV is from Eset? Actually I saw Eset logo in their website.

Bitdefender Cloud scan is very good. But I have heard that this one also downloades It downloads 25 Mb of virus definition for scanning. So, not a cloud scanner

 

I believe so because there's also "Powered by ESET" thingy in their software.

Yeah, this thing looks like it has maximum security alright At best it looks cluttered as hell. I'll remain skeptical and let the "mad scientists" here take this to their labs to play with it. If it clears them, maybe I'll bite.

 

I downloaded Epic and tried it. When I clicked on the AV's "Scan my system", it tried to download a 25M file.

I was expecting a cloud type of AV.

 

IMO 25 mb is not that large for an on-demand, offiline scanner. It offers removal btw.
Its cluttered I agree. But I think it is more important to me to get Eset as a on-demand free scanner. So, I will use this as a backup scanner rather than a browser.

 

It performs worse than Firefox in a benchmark test.

How do others find it in the real world?

There are a lot of reasons to use it over Firefox but there are also a few annoyances.

I couldn't connect to one of the pages at http://www.epicbrowser.com/ earlier. An example of what I saw.

 

I love this browser.It works at the same speed as firefox.

Unfortunately I could not find a way to see the quarantined items.It automatically removes the infection as soon as it finds.What if it is a false positive?
Also you have to use the built in download manager.If you use downthemall extension it does not find the infection during the download process.

 

Are u able to add skins / themes to this browser? Also has anyone tested this against any malicious web sites to see if the http scanner works?

 

They need to release a portable version.

Yes,you can add a lot of skins and themes.Is so cool.I added NoScript and AdBlock,the browsing speed seems to me a little faster than Firefox.All in all,seems to be keeper,time will tell if it could replace Firefox for me.

 

For me the resource usage is OK. But I have heard that it is hoggy in some PC. Anyone having this problem?
And anyone found the quarantine, so that threats can be restored?


Also I am having a problem, WOT is not activating? Anyone having same?

Overall it seems to be a good choice for some guys here who don't prefer to use a resident AV scanner.

 

WOT blocks access to websites for me but search annotations in Google results only show up for very few links.

I haven't used the anti-virus part (yet). Does anyone know how it works? Heuristics? Definitions? Both? If it uses definitions, do they get updated?
