    There are various methods for removing google tracking while still using its search engine. I don't see the point of an alternative site.

    That's odd because Scroogle was half-working fine. They mention that it was erroring with "no results found" but I received this error about once every 10 searches. Re-searching the same variable would also solve it.

    I don't know why they've felt the need for the redirection to this page...

    @Rmus

    Hope you don't mind me joining in ;)

    I imagine they log our IP's and therefore build up a database of searches against them every time. However, fortunately for those of us with dynamic IP's they cannot do that :p unless as you say, a cookie is stored :thumbd: But for those of us who disable cookies for most of the time :thumb: and always on search engines :p that won't work either :thumb:

    @J_L

    Please give us an example, thanks.

    That was happening before, but now it's gone I guess.. Was pretty sure it happened, but don't remember when.
    Anyhow, ignore my last comment.

    The *SOLUTION* is to switch your searches to Startpage (by Ixquick) -- no IP records are kept.

    If you are really paranoid, Startpage also provides HTTPS searches.

    I'm not that paranoid, but I always check my browser's status bar unlike some people.

    Just a very skeptical person from birth.

    Edit:
    Just to explain things, it was years ago when I saw that but only a few times. Very fuzzy recollection, but installed CustomizeGoogle after that and Google searches always been pointing to direct links.

    If you didn't know, you can 'pause' your google Web History If you do, they say they won't collect any information until you resume.

    Personally, I use ixquick SSL and duckduckgo SSL

    If someone knocked on your door and asked if they could come in and look through your drawers, your nightstand, etc. would you let them? If your home is free of illegal materials and your argument is "I have nothing to hide" -- why wouldn't you?

    But don't trust that silly proxy. I tested it with gmail and gmail was not fooled. I am finding out that gmail is a better IP tester than any of these sites that you go to. I don't know how they do it but they know. And they have some kind of geolocation that cannot be disabled through Firefox or noscript..

    Using Tor fools their servers. I am on it now and the Gmail sign-up page thinks I am in Germany.

    Hi caspian,

    The question about geo-location is that one's ip address geo-locates the server that is awarded via DHCP when a connection is made from a home location to the ISP, and does not geo-locate one's street address which is known by the ISP via billing and resolving the assignment of the variable ip address from the ISP's pool of ip addresses.

    All of that is independent of browser or NoScript settings. Still when one uses Google anything it is best to have the CustomizeGoogle Firefox add-on with the Privacy boxes checked in order to randomize any information that Google gets to use.

    Yes Tor works for it.
