Do I need to shut down the current version before updating?

Up and running...

 

Installed over existing version with no problems. Registry monitoring information can be found here: http://www.winpatrol.com/regoptions.html. With PLUS version I assume it is in real time. There is no option to change from real time to a set time or turn off. There is an option to add or remove entrees.

Just installed the new (Plus) version on Win7 x64. Unfortunately, Scotty isn't recognizing many Windows services as coming from Microsoft -- they're listed without a Company name. So checking the "list non-Microsoft services only" only weeds out a small number of Windows services. I didn't have this problem with the previous version.

Is anyone else having this problem?

For Win7 users running UAC standard (with less registry protection than UAC on Vista) and no HIPS, scotty is a must with these capabilities

 

How would a lightweight firewall such as Look 'n' Stop combined with WinPatrol Plus compare to firewalls that include HIPS e.g. OnlineArmor or ZoneAlarm?

 

Same problem here. Running as a standard user on 64 bit Vista. FWIW, I installed the new version over the top of the old version.

I see you're experiencing the same thing. Many of the services in the screenshot are Windows services, but they're not identified as originating from Microsoft. So if you DO check "list non-Microsoft services only" they will still be listed.

This is a problem because if you're looking for unnecessary non-Microsoft services to turn off it forces you to look up dozens of services unnecessarily.
