How beneficial is PIOZR verse without using/enabling it?

 

If you use it once every 1-2 weeks very beneficial; the system and the apps after 1-2 months seem a lot snapier. But you should not use it more often; it will only make your defragmentation time longer with no real benifits.

Thanks for the reply. It's quite a good price for two licences, so might go for that.

 

So if i were to perform regular differentials then i would have to disable two of the main componments of Puran.
So i guess i would be better off sticking with windows built in defragger then?
Or would i be better trying defrag express as windows defragger is so sloooooow.

 

Only if you want to make the smallest differentials possible.
If you enable the "fill gaps.." you will produce similar differentials as those produced by defrag express.
Defrag express seems to use a similar algorithm with puran; it never moves anything if used after a puran defragment.

Go with whatever you fill comfortable. For me puran is the holly grail of the defraggers; it is extremly fast, has the most powerfull boottime defrag, is very flexible, with great support and the developers listen to their customers. In fact at the end of the year I am going to purchase another 2 licenses.

Nice, i've been using O&O V12 since launch
I also tried many others such as MyDefrag, Defraggler, PerfectDisk, UltimateDefrag and others LOL
Yeah, i know i tested a lot of them hahaha, although i never tried Puran, i may try it after reading all these positive comments
Finally decided for O&O

 

Think I'll give it a try too.

 

Instead of a weekly defrag, I prefer the boot-time defrag option.

If you select the boot, defrag, then shutdown option, before you head off to sleep, can't get any more convenient than that.



Noob, I'd say O&O is still right up there - probably best I've tried for boot-up, puran close. I was going to send O&O an email, do you know why it must always have an outbound connection to work? I thought it was just for updates, but if I end the outbound connection, the program doesn't work.

 

O&O defrag uses an internal socket connection for communication between it's service and GUI.

This just says that Win7 boot optimization should not be disable, you may still use Puran and PIOZR optim for normal operation, I guess.

'file last access time updating' is disabled by default, does PIOZR need it to be enabled?

 

Don't know ! Maybe PuranSoftware could answer that, but I am not sure they want to, since it must be part of their specific know how. Anyway, best thing is to ask them !

I have a question for FD-ISR users.
I have 2 snapshot that are my main snapshots now that i am using Windows 7.
One i call my primary that i use daily.
The other i call my back up that i only use every 1 or 2 weeks to update windows and any programs/antivirus etc, i then copy/update the back up snapshot to my primary, then boot back into my primary daily until my back up snapshot needs updating again.

Hope i have explained that clearly.

Now my question.
From which snapshot should i defragment?
My instinct is that it should be from my back up snapshot immediately after copy/updating it to the primary snapshot, as my back up snapshot only changes very slightly with updates every 1 or 2 weeks so both snapshots should stay clean with very little fragmentation.

Does this seem the correct way to be going about this or not.
Maybe FD-ISR users have a better deframenting policy?

 

Hi, in my opinion, it doesn't make much difference as the defragmentation procedure is quite fast (after the initial) and in order to gain full advantage of puran I think that you have to use it frequently, not defrag once and then forget it, not to mention that it is likely that you have additional HDD that are not included in FD-ISR snapshots.

If however, you defrag the "back up" snapshot and then copy the defraged back up snapshot to the primary snapshot, I am sure that when you boot to the primary snapshot, it will be defraged as well, if this is what you are asking.

Further I would like to thank the contributors of this thread, as this thread convince me to try puran defrag. I am also thinking to buy it

 

Because of the missing MFT movement/defragmentation Puran is no alternative.

 

It defrags the mft during the boot time; but it does not move the mft files in other places like e.g. perfectdisk.
