I was curious about it so I've run it yesterday on my XP-home, in Safe Mode from the command-line.
(it took 7 hours but that's OK and to be expected).

I was just curious; it didn't find anything and I didn't expected it to.
    I have a question though:
If something would have been found and quarantined and if it would have been a false positive for some reason, how would you be able to restore it?

    FanJ,

If you had logging enabled it would have created an XML file in the directory you're running the VIPRE Rescue Program from which logs any threats found on the system. If you ran the deep_scan.bat file (which it would by default when you first extract the rescue scanner) then it would have used the /deep and /log switches so it should have created the .xml log file.

If you had anything quarantined and you wanted to restore the files you would need to copy the contents of the quarantine folder to the quarantine folder of a an actual VIPRE installation. In XP this would be located here:

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sunbelt\AntiMalware\Quarantine

In Vista it would be located here:

    C:\ProgramData\Sunbelt\AntiMalware\Quarantine

Once the files are copied over you can open VIPRE and restore the files this way. If you don't want to install VIPRE to the system you ran the Rescue Program on or are unable to for some reason, you can just copy these files to another system that has VIPRE installed, restore the files from quarantine, then copy them back over.

    Hi Nick,

Yes, it used those /deep and /log switches and it created the .xml log file.

    OK.
Thanks much for your clear and extensive answer; really appreciated !

    Best regards,
    Jan.
