Help: I can not make a boot disk. When using Acronis Media Builder I always get error message:"Device is busy. (0x40010) Tag = 0x8B7F8138EBD33EBC". It started on June 26 when I finally up?graded from ATI 11 to ATI Home 2009 because a new June 24 build 9796 was advertised by Acronis. However, my download was of the old January build 9709 (while others at the same time got builds 9770 or 9791).

Someone else with my boot disk problem was informed by Acronis Support to "run the installation file of the program and select the Repair option" I have no idea what or where the "repair option" is. Tonight I again tried to download Build 9796. It arrived with an "Unknown Publisher - without valid signature" warning and would not run for me nor, apparently, for anyone else.

Still using build 9709 I read much of the 137 page ATI Home 2009 manual, watched six turorial videos on ATI 11 and based on that modified my BIOS boot sequence to give priority to my CD drive, installed the Acronis Startup Manager - apparently in a secure zone in my bootdrive C: and made an image backup of my boot drive in a secure zone on my drive D: I still can not make a boot disk and still get the same error message as before.

Would appreciate advice on how to make a boot disk - and recommendations for a good backup program. Thanks for your help.

If Media Builder is running okay, have you tried leaving the burner's tray open with the blank CD on it and letting Media Builder pull it in when it's ready? That works sometimes to get past the "busy" problem.

You should also be able to create an ISO file and then use an ISO capable burning program to create the CD if Media Builder has problems writing directly to the CD.

Acronis is currently having a lot of problems with the 9796 build release. It's probably a good idea to wait until it gets fixed before trying to use it.

A "good" backup program is one that works correctly on you system. What's good for one computer may not work at all on another. I currently use three different backup programs because each one offers certain features that the others lack.

Thanks!! Your simple remedy of leaving the file door open worked. I would never have thought of that. I hope that others having the same problem read your solution so as not to waste time with new downloads etc. as I did. Also thanks for the useful information on creating a bootable USB hard disk.

You mentioned using several backup programs. I am looking for a file (not image) backup program for easily and safely copying data, and preferably also music and picture files to a USB drive so as to accessible from it without requiring a recovery program. Objective is to select files (e.g. without compression or encryption) for backup from a directory tree - and to repetitively copy the selected files or folders to a USB HD as a full backup - or if available with incremental or differential backup.

I would appreciate your suggesting any such backup program.

I can't take credit for the "tray" trick. That's been a standard "first try" solution for the "busy" problem since the early versions of TI. I'm glad it worked for you.

I don't personally use it, but several regular forum members recommend Karen's Replicator or SyncBack for file backups.

    Hello all,

Thank you for using Acronis True Image Home 2009

Here are some more workarounds which will help to resolve the above mentioned issue:

    1. Please make sure that you are using a blank unformatted CD/DVD-R or CD/DVD-RW disc, as other types of media cannot be used to create a bootable rescue CD/DVD.

    2. Boot into Safe mode (press F8 when Windows starts up and choose Safe mode to boot into) and then create Acronis True Image Bootable CD/DVD.

    3. Update any third-party CD/DVD-writing software installed on the computer to the latest version available for free on its respective web-site.

    4. Uninstall any CD/DVD burning software temporarily and then create Acronis True Image Bootable CD/DVD.

    5. If you use Windows XP please uncheck the "Enable CD/DVD recording on this drive" box in the "Recording" tab (to get to this tab please right click on the CD/DVD-drive in "My computer" and choose "Properties").

    Best regards,
