Is there any portable AV available?

    Yes, Norton Security Scan and Clean, DrWeb CureIt, Norman Malware Cleaner and ClamAV.

    btw most of them need to be redownloaded to update.
    there is also f-secure easy clean in my sig.

    What's the link to Sophos portable? I thought the Kaspersky one installed a driver or something?

    But do they leave registry entries, files?
    Clamwin from PortableApps shouldn't, but the rest probably do :doubt:

    cure it only leaves a text file with details about a scan and thats it.
    not sure about the others.
    avp tool (kaspersky) does install but it cleanly uninstalls.

    PortableApps' Clamwin is the only one I've found that has incremental updates (if that is of any importance to you).
    (vs. requiring full download in full before each scan)

    NSS is a good tool, but requires install first on local hard drive and subsequently makes registry entries.

    I use A-Squared Emerency USB Stick, it contains A2-Free and its command line scanner. No need to install, just unzip and use. Since the v4 scanner includes Ikarus AV engine, it one of the best in detection. Its free and it allows you to update the defs too.

    Very good tool with it's formidable Ikarus AV engine.
    My only gripes with it are:
    Scans of individual files is awkward.
    Updates I do not believe are incremental.

    ive been looking for a decent scanner for my usbstick that can update.
    hmm cant seem to find system requiments for any of there products. im assuming it works on 64bit vista?

    hmm it installs a service...
    how the hell do i uninstall it?
    i could remove it manually but i would rather uninstall it via an uninstaller but it doesnt seem to have one.
    come to think of it ive got an image from around 30mins ago. ill restore it.

    Interesting. DL'd and played a bit.
    Clean install on USB. Incremental updates.
    Veritable plethora of options / added services.
    Could be intimidating for some.
    This is a keeper. Thanx.

    Just delete it on your USB drive.
    Assuming install involved merely extracting the 'a2usb.zip' contents onto your flash drive.
    PS: I do not believe updates are incremental (if that is an issue for you).

    it installs a service and its set to automatic.
    the service isnt stopped after closing the application.
    im sure i tryed deleteting the folder when the service was stopped but it didnt work. windows gave me an in use error.
    I restored an image so its gone now.
    I may post on the a squared forums tomorrow so it can get fixed.

    May I ask what service? I can find no such.
    Deleting what folder? There should be nothing on your HD, only your USB.

    a2service

    go to start,control panel,(classic view if on xp),show all if on vista) administriive tools,services.
    you should find the a2service which is running from our usb drive. in my case it was running from my seocond internal hard drive. the service is set to automatic.
    report back your findings.

    Sorry, but no such service running here (XP Pro) even with A2 open / running.
    Are you sure a2usb.zip contents were extracted solely to your usb, and not your HD?
