    Hi,

I'm noticing some very, very strange activity with the Windows Update website today.

First off, today is Tuesday and a bunch of updates were released. Normally my PC automatically downloads them and installs them (as it is set to do this) but it did not. So, I went to the website manually and it didn't load. Got stuck on a white page. I tried about a dozen times and it finally worked and I downloaded and installed the updates.

However, when I try to go to the windows update site now to see if the updates installed successfully, it keeps freezing at the "Checking if your computer has the latest ActiveX control to use this site.." or it just remains at a white page, trying to load. Everything else on my computer appears to be working normally except for the Windows Update website.

Has anyone else been having trouble with the Windows Update website or Automatic Updates recently? Is there a reason to why it's not working or a solution?

    Regards,

    Mark.

PS: I will do a virus scan/spyware scan now, but I don't think that's the problem because everything else is working okay and I did manage to get to the website once...

No malware. I had the same problem when I went to check whether
all was recognised as being installed. ( I always download the KBxxxxxx
manually from the microsoft download site and then check with the update
site to see if all is OK).
I had one freeze and when I tried again it took about 8 minutes before
there was some activity - only then did the site load.:thumbd:

Have a feeling it was probably just a server overload.

After reading the OP`s post (totally lost track of patch Tuesday and have auto-updates turned off) I fired up IE and got right into the site, d\l`d and installed the updates with no problem on both my Wifes` and my PC.

Rookieman, Mark, Ocky, Iodore: look on your IE/ Add-ons.
Also compare with: All Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Run IE without add-ons .

Updates are downloading very very slowly on my computer. Based on all comments, I'm guessing it is a MS problem and not something on my machine.

Took an hour to dlownlaod first update.

    I have:
    Activated actually existing Add-ons: NOTHING ( except ToolbarCop add-on and Shockwave Flash Object );
    Downloaded Add-ons ( 32 bits ) : ALL 3 JAVA PLUGINS: DISABLED.

    All three disabled by me!:argh:

ALL three disabled by me!:argh: :argh: :argh:

I make Test Java: 'Congratulations. The latest version of JRE is installed and running correctly on your system. ( on my Windows XP ). Java 6 update 11.

I go on Secunia OSI: Java Applet loaded successfully ... Yeah!

Make download of ToolbarCop, using ToolbarCop to remove the unwanted Toolbands, Toolbar icons and Browser Helper Objects ( BHO ): http://windowsxp.mvps.org/toolbarcop.htm

    ... also run JavaRa !!!

I take it from what your saying is these can safely be disabled and won't affect your surfing at all?

Always wait at least 1-2 weeks after WU come out. Let others sort out the problems for you :)

    Hi,

I think you're right because it appears to be working okay for me now. I didn't do anything, it just suddenly started to work as normal.

Hopefully it won't happen again for the January updates... when Windows Update doesn't work it drives me mad with worry...
