I've had 3 clients and my brother-in-law tell me they had the same message yesterday. This morning mine did it too. :(

They must have put some type of timer or something on the last freeware version because I've not seen a single net access attempt by the app in any log, ie, firewall, router, etc.

    Hi,

I just fired it up to see what happens (only started it and then exit): no such warning here.....

    JayK,

"this" refers to resetting the clock.

    regards.

No I mean, for what reason. II thought you mean "this" in the sense of getting around restrictions for software.

In principal: that's the reason indeed - not only in regard to this specific software, but overall.

    regards,

Add me to the ones who loved the JV-16 while it was still freeware.

And I too suddenly and mysteriously got that "old version" notice and refusal to run for the first time last weekend, after it had performed marvelously for months.

I'm guessing that moving into the new year, with systems dates in 2004, is probably what triggered whatever/wherever to disable it.

I don't know if anyone else tried this -- but I still had the installer for it (those installers can be handy to save, sometimes ;) ). So I tried un-installing and re-installing -- and got exactly the same "old version" result.

P.S. I went looking for a substitute replacement, and as expected nothing else came even close. In particular, nothing could match JV-16's explanations of why it was unhappy with what it found ("file doesn't exist", etc.).

But take a look at Easy-Clean, at toniarts. While it suffers from the same lack of feedback, it does have a wide range of tools similar to the JV-16.

I'm sure Journi will be pleased with your decision, Ahmad - one can't blame any developer for going commercial if only to cover the expenses ;)

My JV16 stopped working too. Will look into JV16 PowerTools 1.3.0.195 per the above post/link.

I was thinking of giving Ace Utilities a try... anyone with experience with Ace Utilities?
