Fastest Firewall

Any sugestions on the quickest scanning firewall? I have tried Sygate Pro, Online Armor (free one), ZoneAlarm Pro and I even uninstalled NOD and tried Kaspersky Security suite which lasted for about two hours. I have learned to trust NOD and I can't stand not having it running. I play games online and the firewall is slowing me down. I got alot of info from link below (scroll down to see results) but nothing on the fastest. Thanks.

I am not a gamer, but I have noticed that a lot of gamers use Look'n'Stop firewall. You could try it, it is a very light rule-based firewall . BTW, the link you provided show the results of leak-tests only, which is not much of info IMO.

I´m a heavy gamer and I continue to stick with the Win XP firewall which is a fast and free alternative. Even If I have played around with several FW:s that are both good and fast, I always return to the above mentioned.

Either use Windows firewall, or if you're behind a NAT router, don't use any firewall when gaming (I've done it for the last 7 years and never had a problem).

Very interesting question indeed, it has never come into my mind before. Your question has just reminded me of something. In the last few weeks, I have tested a number of firewalls, such as McAfee Desktop, McAfeer Personal 9, Sunbelt Kerio 4.5, Outpost 2008 and just yesterday ZA AS. I am using ZA AS(the one is still on ZA's promotion list), and feel my surfing speed has improved for some reasons. Web pages are loaded much quicker, mouse response is more sharper. Perhaps you can try it.

 

Comodo V3 is super fast. Too bad it is not final yet.

 

Will you please stop spamming this forum with this bloated slow bugfest.

What firewall do you use?

 

All the ones I've tried (NetVeda,ZA,Filesclab,Sygate,Comodo,Webroot ,PC Tools ,OA,Kerio)-didnt have an appreciable performance difference-but then I didnt take out the stopwatch.

I put this down to having a powerful computer.


Suggest if there is a real hit-time to considering upgrading.

Thank you everyone for the input. I am behind a router, but I think I will give LNS a shot. It sounds lightweight and quick. I'm just gonna have to figure out the rules that I need to set. I'm currently running Sygate which seems ok but since its outdated I don't know if I can trust it. Thanks again all.

O.k, since you are playing online and also behind a router, don´t forget that there are router models that are a little less suited for gaming (because of latency) and that you should check up those that are dedicated for online gaming (for example DGL-4100).

Since you're sitting behind the router, I'd just skip the software firewall completely. Fastest and easiest way to go....

 

Anything that you can unload while gaming should do the trick. That means most anything.

You know that saying: if it's not broken, don't fix it ? If Sygate is working, why try something else ?

 

If you're behind a router already (featuring NAT), don't install any firewall. Believe me, I've been a gamer for years, that is the best solution

If you need outbound protection aswell, the lightest fws are Jetico/LnS.
