Why are the two Svchost.exe options set to Off by default?

Marcos or any other knowledgeable readers,
Can you set us straight on the check boxes for svchost.exe in "Web Browsers" and in "Active Mode" ? Since they were both defaulted to off can you tell me if there are any drawbacks on enabling them? Thanks!

Haven't located any discussions on this matter other than on a forum for Outpost firewall users who are running NOD 3.0 and I do not use a software firewall - am using a D-Link router. http://www.outpostfirewall.com/forum/showthread.php?p=158263

 

They appeared there in this list because they have generated some http traffic which was scanned by the applications . They don't need any checks

I made svchost.exe actively scanned by the http scan component and experienced no problems so far.

Since it's used for almost everything that goes out/in, is it dangerous, or a waste of scan time, to leave things this way or can be a useful scanning if no problems arise?

I'm not aware that svchost.exe uses HTTP communication so marking it as a web browser or setting it to higher efficienciency mode should have no effect.

 

Svchost is the responsable for Automatic Updates and DNS requests among other things, it uses 80 and 443 on a regular basis.
I have main set up as a web browser but not in Active mode since I get an error on Windows Update.
