Anyone know what's new/different? I didn't see a version history on their web site.

So the Pro version is free for personal use? Didn't they used to have a free and pro?

I believe one of the leak test sites reported that this product was dead so this update has taken me by surprise.

For those who care about such things as leaktests it will be interesting to see how SafetyNet fares with a new version and renewed development. The previous version (3.6) was in the middle of the pack at matousec ahead of these:

    Norton Internet Security 2007 10.2.0.30
    PC Tools Firewall Plus 2.0.0.25
Avira Premium Security Suite 7 build 98
    SensiveGuard 1.06
    Sygate Personal Firewall 5.6.2808
McAfee Internet Security Suite 2006 8.0
    Blink Personal Edition 3.0.8.1496
    ZoneAlarm Free 7.0.302.000
    CA Personal Firewall 2007 3.0.0.196
    Outpost Firewall Free 1.0.1817.1645
    Norman Personal Firewall 1.42
    TheGreenBow Personal Firewall 2.60.005
    BitDefender Internet Security 10.108
    Panda Antivirus + Firewall 2007 6.00.00
    Ashampoo FireWall Pro 1.14
    Armor2net Personal Firewall 3.13.30
    AVG Anti-Virus plus Firewall 7.5.431
    Rising Personal Firewall 2007 19.33.10
    Filseclab Personal Firewall 3.0.0.8686
    Prisma Firewall 2.4.4.0
    Windows Firewall XP SP2

I installed NetVeda v3.8 on a test box and it seems to me like there is a memory leak. The first screenshot was taken right after installation and the second was taken about 5 hours later. As you can see the memory usage has increased significantly and the computer has essentially just been idling.

I found that too. I shut down the fw and then restarted it, then it seemed to stabilise at about 8 megs per process.

I just did a reboot of the box. I'll leave it running a few hours and see if it remains stable or starts climbing again.

Very odd indeed. It also appears that the forum postings from the previous years have been wiped out. :shifty:
It also still lists Windows 95 as being compatible with the new firewall which is a surprise.
My previous warning about the license expired message appears to be correct after all.

I wonder if all the upgrade did was make the former pro version a free version? IIRC- most of the upgrades for the free fw were formerly exclusive to the pro. Maybe the free version started out as a trial of the paid, then disabled some extras once the trial expired? Maybe that accounts for the license expiry "bug" ?

I'd like to re-install Avast on my machine. Can anyone advise if Netveda gets on well with it? I seem to recall it had an issue with local proxys ala Sygate.

The test box I reinstalled NetVeda SafetyNet on is also running Avast and they are running fine together.

    A good pfw
But it is a pity that it does not have any kind of self-protection and u cannot set a password to protect its settings.

You can set a password; it's under "Configuration".

The password only protects its service from being stopped without permission?

The password protects against opening the administration screen and unauthorized configuration changes; it doesn't protect the service from being stopped.
