security suite for new family PC?

hello, im new with computers and i was wondering what security i should put on our new family pc (pref a suite) any help would be appriciated!

My Suggestions is

1. KIS 7

2. NIS 2007

both are good and superior with excellent performance and very light on system too.

For a familly computer where kids might be, I'd say Norton Internet Suite. It has almost no pop-ups for the firewall asking you what to do as it takes most of the decision itself. Some people do not like that but for a set-it forget-it setup, it can't be beat.

I would also think that Norton Internet Security 2007 would serve you well with good protection with the least intervention required.

I would suggest that you "try before buy."

Some excellent suites do not run well on all computers.

Another excellent suite you may want to consider is Blink Personal. It is currently free for one year.

 

norton 360 is the most powerfull and basic one out there.

very child friendly.

 

I agree with JerryM to try first. My example: I put KIS on and it was perfect for a few days till problems started. I love this suite but it would not work. Then I put Norton on and so far no problems. Not thrilled with it but hey....it's working!

 

The problem is he said it is a new computer and probably has Vista. And Blink doesn't support Vista yet.

 

You're correct....I didn't consider that he might be using that "other" OS.

 

I'd say Norton07 or 08 when released for a family computer....

 

360 is definatly more 'child/family friendly' that the suites, installation is all thats needed.

the suites are the same, but it can produce a few more pop ups that 360, although still less than most (if not all) suites.

 

i downloaded the free trial of KIS 7 and i got loads of error messages (also as slow as sh** on our quad core PC). i uninstalled it and am now sitting with norton 360

what im guessing a compatibleiuty issue with your pc and kis7.0 because it works fine on my single core amd 3200 powered pc.

then you should try something that isnt sliced up.

 

As always, one thing runs fine on one machine, and not on another. Gotta try it out to find out...
