PDF Creation Alternative to Adobe Acrobat

I use PDF for a lot of files, creating them for various purposes. Is there a reliable cheaper alternative to Acrobat for creating docs? I also am getting tired of the Activiation scheme of Adobe as well as how bloated it is. Thanks for your help.

I've been using Tracker Software's PDF-Xchange for years and am quite happy with it. Reasonably priced, good support.

 

Can you create with FoxIt or just read created files?

Foxit has a paid add-on to create .PDF

I use cutePDF, it's free and works flawlessly.

Tried em all, Primo seems to be the best and most full featured and they have a 64 bit version as well.

I rely on PDF for printing web pages.

Usually, I make my documents using TeXmacs and export them to relevant format or by PDFCreator.

I remembere that I have Open Office installed on another OS on my multiboot PC, so I tested.

Open Office has an "Export to PDF" menu item, but there is no Open Office PDF printer.

Did not check whether there was a way to create such a printer.
PDF version 1.4 is used.

 

In considerinng an alternative to Acrobat for creating PDF, one also needs to address the bells and whistles.

For example, on my main OS I have full Acrobat 5 and PDF Converter Professional 4.

The latter is much less expensive but lacks the ability to compare PDF documents. So I guess the features I would want are, off the top of my head:

1. Ability to create PDF from any app by printint/saving as PDF.
2. Converting PDF to usefull formats such as text, Word doc, RTF, etc.
3. Ability to comparePDF docs and mark differences.

What products do these tasks well?

Any other features that were no on the top of my head?

P.S. Does Office 2007 create a PDF printer, or just Export PDF?
