So Comodo has changed its name with its most recent release. I wonder if there will be a "full featured" version coming soon which can be had for a price? This release is beta and offers the following changes-

    - "Comodo Firewall" name has been changed to "COMODO Firewall Pro"
    - "Activity->Connections" now shows per connection bytes in/out
    - Animated tray icon showing in/out traffic status
    - Removed Buffer Overflow Protection feature, it will be targeted for next i.e. 2.5 release

The animated tray icon has been requested repeatedly on the Comodo forum "wish list". It is supposed to emulate Zone Alarm's tray icon. A link to the filehippo download site is below-

No, it will be free forever, or at least until that promise is broken. Comodo CEO has been pitching the free forever approach very hard. The day he brakes that promise will be the end of it imo. As far as I know they have no reason to charge for it since their free products are solely made as a marketing tools (raise awareness) for their actual product; SSL certificates and web content verification, and they make good money with it I am told.

So until something that contradicts the CEO´s words actually happens, everything else is loose speculation imho. (I have seen others speculate on other forums too)

At least now more people will realise, that Comodo Pro is comparable with Outpost Pro. [IMG]

    Installed the new beta version.

Had to uninstall the older version first.

Seems to be running OK ATM.The animated icon is quite nifty.

    Processess - cpf.exe - 15,760, cmdagent.exe- 7,108 which is acceptable I suppose.Can't remember the old version resource usage.o_O

    20.8 meg installed.

    Gui is much the same.

I think you might find the answer here : http://www.matousec.com/projects/windows-personal-firewall-analysis/leak-tests-results.php
    :D

Comodo Group - the vendor of Comodo Personal Firewall

Comodo Group expressed their great enthusiasm about our results, which is understandable because their results were marked as excellent. As a result, they have published their own press release about our results. We were also informed that the latest beta version of Comodo Personal Firewall is able to stop the Coat leak-test, which was the only test that its older version failed.

I´ve been using this beta for a couple of days and it seem stable enough on my system. Only problem I have is that Comodo protects itself too much :)
I must disable some of Comodo self protection in order to take snapshots with FirstdefenseISR. There are two files that wont be read/copied/modified, I dont know wich..
It might just be my system since it seems that not everyone with FDISR (Leapfrog version) has this problem. I am very intrigued why my system is more protected than others...

Well, I have reported it on their forum, and someone tested it but could not reproduce it...
Actually I didn't know I could open a ticket directly with support, I thought the forum was the support :)
I will look into it. Thanks.

Beta versions do not auto-update to prevent common users from using them.

Nope, auto-update updates only final version to next final version.
So the version 2.3 will auto-update to the final version 2.4, not sooner.

Betas contain many bugs and if users would be forced to use them, well, it would be a disaster.
CPF's final version 2.4 should be out at the end of this year or at the beginning of the next one.

When the next full version is released, if the auto update selection is ticked, it should download, install, then prompt for a restart.
If not, (ticked) run the manual update when you read "the word"*, and the same thing should happen.

    * = you browse the forums regularly: this will be big news.
