outpost or comodo to go with kav?

Hi,
Its in the title.

I want to people to tell me the pros and cons of both.

atm I really think I will get kav in decemeber. not point in wasting money.

btw i will point tout that all i want is a firewall I don't need it to do anything else. no stuff to stop details from being taken e.g. putting credit card details in a plug in. no antispyware plug ins, no blocking flash animations etc. kav+counterspy will deal with that and Firefox with no script will stop flash etc.

is both of there self protection good?

Based on what you're saying that you want, I would say Comodo would fit the bill quite nicely. I've run KAV 6 with it, so I know that there aren't any nutty compatibility issues. If you're looking to KAV to handle the bulk of your system's other than malware protection, paying for Outpost just to strip it down doesn't make sense.

 

thanks and i agree why pay for outpost and then dont use most of it.

then I can save the money and buy counterspy as extra protection so not to put all my eggs in one basket

 

I love my Outpost firewall but again if all you need is the firewall it would be just as good to use Comodo probably.

yup. isn't lavasoft personal firewall outpost without the plug ins?

 

Not familiar with it but I saw some screenshots of it and it looks like it is. Maybe it is a version behind or something. It doesn't seem that it would be the current version. If anyone else knows please feel free.

I'd go with Outpost but if cost is an issue Comodo works jsut fine. I like the activex and script filtering at the firewal not the browser. To protect IE even though by default I use Opera or Firefox

 

I like Comodo because of all the features you can get for free. Outpost is also good, but still sometimes gives me BSODs.

 

I have lifetime license for OutPost, so cost is no issue. However it is difficult for me to say buy Outpost when Comodo is so good and free.

QBGreen is on target too. Given your question and the apps you mention I would take the free Comodo and spend the money on KAV.

Yeah from what i've seen i think lavasoft firewall is based on an older version of outpost, possibly v2.

Yes, Lavasoft Personal Firewall is a clone of a previous version of Outpost.

 

Very odd that many programs have similarities with other programs? Is this intentional? Is copyright infringment a possibility?

 

they licensed the outpost firewall so its ok to use it.

 

I guess it can be similar to the intermittent windshield wipers that are on all cars. One person invents it and then others copy it or add their additions to it and then creates a slightly different version of the original idea.

 

Not to drift off topic but it happens with software too. Any way if memory serves me correctly. An inventor sued Ford Motor for stealing his invention. Ford settled for millions.

(I am not saying that is the case here either)

 

Now that you mention it, I do recall when the Big Three automakers were sued by an inventor for not paying any royalties for his wiper invention.
