PC Tools AntiVirus 3.0 Released

    Unfortunately, with this version PC Tools has dropped the KAV engine and gone for VirusBuster instead. :(

    This is really not a nice move in my opinion.

    Drop KAV for VirusBuster?

    I'm thinking of the existing customers of PC Tools. They have effectively been cheated. If they had to change the engine, they should have at least chosen a better one than VirusBuster (Maybe Dr.Web or AVIRA or BitDefender).

    I found this out by looking at the virus database files in the installer. The KAV AVC files are gone and replaced by VirusBuster vdb files.

    I suppose VBuster is less expensive that KAV.

    What do you mean? o_O

    @bellgamin: That would be the only reason I can think of. But still, PC Tools has a reputation for reliable software, and that VirusBuster engine does not make PC Tools AV so reliable any longer. Which is why I wonder why they made this decision.

    well im if not wrong virusbuster uses dr.web engine?

    No, I do not think so. They perform quite worse than Dr.Web in independent tests, so I'm pretty sure VirusBuster does not use Dr.Web engine.
