avast to replace bitdefender in avk 2007

More likely reasons for the switch:
-Bitdefender didn't extend the licensing
-Bitdefender is just too damn slow for virtually no benefit over KAV (bitdefender is much better than avast, but it's only an addition to KAV as main detection module)
-Avast is much cheaper for licensing

 

Well, good luck for Avast! All AVs try their best to be more and moer better and that's good in our world where virus creators do the same.

 

Now which engine will they pick to replace KAV when that is no longer licensed either?

First off I ask is it really necesarry to have two AV engines in a AV software/product, I mean wouldn't this cause more confusion and mix ups. Also in AVK was KAV the main AV module or was it BD. Also the reason of change to Avast is I am guessing AVK struck a better licensing deal with Avast and as they say at the end of the day the $$$$$ sign talks.

 

i dont think either engine is the main one. since the product uses two engines, it is marketed as such.

also u can use both engines or choose between the two.

 

I know there are alot of Avast! fans here but I must say I am semi-disappointed with this setup, IMO KAV's signatures with BD's heuristics was a great combo.

Now Avast! I know is good in generic detections, but what about heuristics, is there even any? Someone with more info about Avast! is more than welcome to enlighten me.

In my mind something like Antivir or Norman even would have been a better combo. Just a thought and a question.

I am not knocking Avast! they have made great improvements, but more or less I am knocking GData. Two Signature based scanners together... I don't know if I agree, unless this was a step towards next release, if KAV doesn't allow them to re-up the engine. Then I can see a heuristic type AV added to the mix, Norman has been on the bargain shelves in the states which makes me wonder.

Norman sandboxing will make it crawl . I think AntiVir or VBA32 might be a
better choice.

Just a guess, to replacing BitDefender, Alwil may develop the special avast! 4 engine edition or even the new avast! 5 engine for using with Kaspersky in AVK 2007, who knows?

 

What is the point to have Avast together with KAV?

What is the chanse that Avast will pick something that KAV miss?

i dont really like the move eiether but its there choice and i dont see the point in a two engine setup. it just makes most computers crawl to a halt. one av with an online scan every so often is good enough. and if you do get infected its normaly your fault downloading dodgy software and so on i dont think i need to make it any more clear...

GData seems to keep increasing memory usage heavily in the releases.
I used 2004 and 2005 and loved them, but when 2006 cam around with all the hoopala it just killed both the machines I tried. From the looks it may well be the same with 2007, I hope not though. I think they have a realy good program deep down below all the useless garbage.

Not exactly, in fact : Kav is decribed as the "main", "standard" engine in the settings, BD is just the "additional" one in Avk 2006 - could post a screenshot, but mine is in french .

As I see this discussion on Avast about to be integrated in Avk, it makes me think that the best would be to replace Avk's web scanner (which is so buggy and annoying ) with Avast web scanner. The Avast one is ways better in usability than the current Avk web scanner , and doesn't pump resources like the Avk one.
