Interesting, TonyW, thank you; the "improvements" or changes make for an interesting read.

Can we install the new version directly from the Leapfrog site? If not, why not and when should we expect Raxco to catch upo_O

Cool. Well, next on the list is PerfectDisk 8, due out this fall (no, not Leapfrog, Raxco).

Is your licenced copy still intact? By that I mean does your Customer ID still show up when you go to Help/About? I'm only asking because wondering if installing Leapfrog's copy would interfere with say Raxco's. I thought they made some changes themselves when they got the bare metal product, like adding their company name etc.

I tried Leap Frog`s copy and it said I`d have to uninstall Raxco`s in order to proceed. That`t when I stopped.

I think I remember Leapfrog stating that they do not recommend doing this. I think that they recommended getting the updates from Raxco directly. However, I do not remember the reasoning.

I sent a letter off to Roxco to see about the new version. They said it`s in internal testing right now and that they can`t give a time for release. Just have to wait I guess.

Perhaps it's because their version is meant for the likes of Raxco etc. and OEMs. I don't know why they offer it as a download as an individual can't purchase from Leapfrog anyway.

Wonder why they need to test it internally? It's the same product that has been beta-tested by Leapfrog and is now available for download. Surely all they need to do is re-brand it and offer it as soon as. :doubt:

    Greetings All,

Ok, let me see if I can shed some light here.

Why can I not purchase the LSI version of the technology?
First off, please review this post about how we structured the company. It really boils down to us choosing resellers that provide outstanding support, so that we can concentrate on the technology side of things.

Why is the technology available for download on the LSI website?
We have several site license customers that required access to our latest version, OEM's that require access to our new libraries, and several IT firms that integrate our solution into their customers systems.

Can I use the LSI version instead?
Although, some of you have discovered that the recent LSI download works, I do recommend that you install your vendors build(Raxco, Software Pursuits, PEER) when they release it. The reason is that the LSI builds can have features that differ from the ones you may get, and like, from the resellers.

Why the extra beta testing by the resellers?
We recommend to each reseller to go through an extra post-compile beta test after we ship the product to them. We are extra cautious, maybe overly, to make sure each version to you has had the greatest amount of eyes look upon it. As most of you know, there will never be a software product totally void of all bugs, but we like to make sure these are at a minimum; and when bugs do arise, the resellers that we have chosen do a GREAT job handling the issues.

Ok, I hope this helps. Take care all.

That certainly makes as much sense as I hoped it would. If Raxco has to support it, they need to vet it first, simple as that (whether customized or not). Thanks, Todd.

If there is one improvement, that FDISR really needs, it's indeed "compression".
My snapshots will take less space in the near future and this deserves an approperiate smiley :
