Error Message scanning MBR Sector

During a NOD32 scan of new files I get the following red message in the Scanning Log display box.
"Error occured while scanning MBR sector of the 3. physical disk.Error reading sector"
I have two hard drives on an XP System running NOD32 version 1.486 (20030815) NT
Could anyone explain what this error means and how to fix it?

There is a thread somewhere, where one of the Mods is giving answer to this subject.
I believe he stated that is not a problem, don't know fore sure though.

Mine is a new system and I don't know what MBR and Special Boot Managers are yet.
It's a steep learning curve but good fun,especially the new Flight Simulator from Microsoft.

I scanned through the topics attempting to find solution to your problem, pretty much what had been said on this topic was all that I seen giving on the other topics.

There was number of topics that these people having the issue done uninstall & re-install of NOD32 and it resolved it, you could try uninstalling NOD32 and re-boot and exit out of all 3rd party processes using Task Manager before attempting to Install NOD32 and then re-boot. Try Scanning ALL Local HDD again see if that could of possibly resolved your issue…

 

More often than not in XP this happens if you are running NOD32 as a limited user with insufficient rights for access.

To avoid this, Right click on a NOD32 program icon and select the "Run As" option and run the program as an Administrator.

Reinstalling NOD doesn't resolve the problem in my case.
I am the sole user of my machine and am logged on with full admin rights.
I would just like to know if this error message is cause for concern?

I wonder if I can get in on this discussion. I am having a similar problem - but it only occurs when I am logged in as a regular (power) user in W2K. It does not occur when I am logged in as the administrator.

"Operating memory is OK
MBR sector of the 1. physical disk. Error reading disk sector. "

I'd just like to get a clarification of linney's response. Is this error expected/acceptable when logged in as a regular (power) user?

I get this 'problem' too, but it also happens in some other selected programs. It's not a bug in NOD32, but the result of a DVD-RAM drive I have installed, which for some reason identifies itself as a fixed (optical disk) drive.

If you have similar, you can safely ignore the NOD32 error report. To check, right-click the "My Computer" icon on your desktop and select Properties. On the Hardware page of the System Properties dialog box, click Device Manager, and see what is listed under 'Disk drives'.

I have a Sony Vaio, and my memory stick slot is listed under 'fixed drives'.

To confirm Steve's observation, I have just disabled my memory stick slot listed under fixed drives and launched the NOD scanner - No error message.

When I re-enable it the 'MBR sector of the 2. physical disk. Error reading disk sector' message returns.

My Sony DVD/CD Rewritable was listed under "Fixed Drives" so I'll assume that it is the culprit.
