How to monitor CPU temperature?

Is there any free software that I can use to monitor the temp of my CPU. I will prefer the one which has some option to show it constantly on my desktop. Also I want to ask is there any possibility of damage to the hardware PC by runnning these type of softwares?

 

to let sppedfan run on startup just drag and drop its icon to startup folder
C:\all program\startup
just right click on startup select open and drag and drop
if configured correctly it will show you the cpu temp on systray (near the clock).

I got SpeedFan http://www.almico.com/sfdownload.php just last week so I could monitor Temperature and voltages more easily, I like it.

 

if ur mobo is relatively modern and u know the manufacturer, u can usually find manufacturer utility on their website. if ur mobo is more older, u can also give the now discontinued motherboard monitor a try.

 

I have Notebook, toshiba satellite M 70.

 

Another vote here for speedfan, an excellent little utility. Not only can it show your CPU temp in the systray, but it can control your fan(s) to make your PC quieter. I love it

I have had to rely on mobo utilities. Nice ones. New mobos have all kinda fancy stuff - monitors for every little thingie.

Speedfan for me.

Graphing facility was a great help when I was stress testing my server... highlighted an issue with erratic temperture (even with a 100mm HDD fan) of my middle hdd (going normal to high), swapping it to the edge solved the issue.

 

I am using the free Motherboard Monitor v5.3.7.0 (MBM 5).. it shows up the case and cpu temperature in real time and just sits in systray.

 

So what about my laptop, it can tell as well. If so, I will prefer it most.

 

I use the Notebook Hardware Control on my notebook, and it works great...

Check yourself its features to see if you like it...

 

Juat have few questions about it

1- Can it be used on desktop as well.
2- Has it all the options of Speed Fan.
3- How much resources it uses?

 

1- I don't know, but you can send an email to the author...
2- I also don't know because I never used the SpeedFan...
3- About +/-5MB.

MBM was among the best and I still use it on my older motherboards,too bad it was discontinued and there is no support for latest chips.
