There is no way that he can list 90000 diferent sample names as well. Only if they are really there.

 

i really doubt a very well known and bought product like etrust would score so low...

 

Looks like he was also going to test WinAntiVirus (but didn't due to lack of trial version), which is made by the same folks that make our favorite app WinFixer.. the antivirus is also listed on the rogue list. What kind of expert would consider using certified malware in such a test that the unsuspecting might use to consider their next AV purchase? Maybe he should throw Virtual Bouncer in there, too..

Especially when it uses the KAV engine..

 

Did anyone actually read the write-up at the beginning? My question to VirusP is how in the world can you state:

But then say that some programs took to long to scan using maximum settings?
You should just say it like this
"I put the programs setting where I felt like, and here are the results"

I know when I run scans with multiple AV's, I dedicate a day and freeze the updates, on a specific day. And I never claim any test I run is accurate by any means but come on. This is a little nuts, a six day span of updates/upgrades, not a uniformed set of settings such as "Out of the box" ......

But, it is some more food for thought at that....

hm, if i understood it right, he used the demo versions of the av programs. some demo versions allow more options than others. maybe this is why he writes "the default settings were not used" and he also does not write explicitly "the best settings were used"....

 

Maybe because there were not many detections (if any) from the extended.

I see Bitdefender 9 scoring high and Bullguard not scoring so well. I thought Bullguard used the bitdefender engine and defs?

As said it previous posts maybe it is not installed to scan all files or something? May be the Bullguard version does not have HIVE (Heuristics)

MWTI website says that the demo version of eScan does not detect Spyware.....

 

I find it strange also. BullGuard does have HIVE, as BD tech support stated that any product using the BD engine will have HIVE.

 

So the tests must be right! Er.. wait...
