I am in a bit of trouble.

I allowed a couple of Windows updates, and when rebooting to install them, it then came a with a BSOD.

It was something about a system violation, access not allowed.

I have managed to boot into another snapshot with FD-ISR, but only in safe mode.

Back in April, I made a terabyte backup which is stored on my data drive,i.e. not on the C: drive

Is it possible to get my computer working properly again restoring this backup in safe mode.

    Tarnak,

Good choice. That should fix your computer. Boot from an IFD or IFL CD or UFD and restore the image. You don't do this from Safe Mode.

    Any questions?

Edit.... I just noticed your image is an Entire Drive image. You only have to restore the OS partition. Easy.

    Hi Brian,

    Long time no see. :)

I am not sure what you mean....I am a complete dummy when it comes to this sort of thing. It took me so long to just make a backup, when you explained just how to do that 18 months to 2 years ago.

    We're both still here.

Download IFL GUI from the TeraByte site. Unzip, double click makedisk.exe and make a CD. Boot from the CD and make sure it works. Get back to us for further instructions if you need help.

I have to hunt up a blank CD...if not I will have to go the shops to get one.

So, it might be sometime before I get to do this. In the meantime I will just keep my computer running in safe mode, so I can still get to follow this thread.

    I won't risk shutting down.

You can use a USB flash drive instead of a CD. You can do this on another computer if one is available.

OK, use the flash drive and we'll have to post all instructions before you shutdown.

Let us know when you have built the Image for Linux flash drive. When you make the IFL UFD I suggest using the "USB Layout" setting of "Partition - MBR FAT/FAT 32 Partition (Int13h Extensions)". Use the Default Geometry setting.

I have other stuff on the flash drive. Should I clear it? I think it would be for the best.

Make sure you get IFL GUI not IFL CUI.

It doesn't matter. It will be deleted when you make the IFL flash drive.

I just found a blank CD, so I can use that instead of a flash drive.

    Making a CD

    double click makedisk.exe, next
    Custom Settings
dot in I accept the agreement, next
tick in Align Partitions on 2048 Sectors
    ignore Miscellaneous...
    ignore Additional....
enter Producy Key for IFL/IFD (same key), next (it's not the IFW key)
select your CD burner drive letter (you can use a CD-RW or a CD-R disc).

I went there but, now I have to find my purchase details...so that will take a little while. :( I must have bought it over two years ago.

We both live in Australia, so not affected by time zones..

I was wondering if I can continue later this afternoon, because I have to go out for a while to do some shopping, plus I need a break too! ;) :)

When you are ready for the restore....

    Boot the CD into IFL
    Restore
    Normal
    File (Direct)
    Linux
choose the HD containing the image (probably sdb or sdc)
    select the backup image
remove the tick from Entire Drive and put a tick in the Partition box (you will only have one tick now)(or maybe a greyed out tick in Entire Drive and a good tick in Partition)
    Linux
choose the HD containing your OS (probably sda)
select the Partition containing the OS
on the Warning screen make sure it's the correct HD. Yes to continue.
    Select
    * Validate Before Restore
    * Validate Byte-for-Byte
    * leave tick in Log Results to File
ignore First Track Sectors AUTO (greyed out)
    ignore Resize partition
    Start

Good luck. It will take a long time as you are doing two Validates in addition to the Restore. When it's finished, exit IFL. Right click the desktop and select Reboot. Remove the CD.
