    Hi Everyone!

    I recently got this Anti-Virus Program ( NOD32 v.2 ) and now I have got some
connection problems with DirectConnect. I can connect to the servers
without any problems but when I'm trying to download a users filelist / file it's
a different story. I have used DirectConnect earlier and I have never
    experienced this problem before.

I don't use any Firewall or Router and the one that comes with WinXP is
turned off aswell, the only thing I use is NOD32 v.2

I'm very thankful for all the tips and advice I can get

    //Regards TrueCross

Directconnect is a file sharing site, correct?
You have the antivirus program right but, the rest of what you say leads me to believe you have bigger problems.
You are basically wide open to all forms of malware. At the very least, you should have your firewall enabled.

You have effectively told us that you are walking down an extremely busy highway blindfolded, if it's not messy now, it is about to get that way...

See this thread for how we set up Nod32 for our systems and clients https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=21171

Then I would suggest the following:

    1. Make sure you have “Windows” FULLY UP TO DATE. While on the Internet, Click on Internet Explorer (the Blue “e”), Click on Tools (on the bar at the top of your screen in Internet Explorer), Click on Windows Update. This will take you to the Microsoft Windows Update page where you need to follow the on screen prompts, starting with “Scan for updates”. Install ALL “Critical Updates” and “Service Packs”.

WEEKLY – check this is “Up to Date”.

    2. Make sure your Nod32 anti-virus is FULLY UP TO DATE. While on the internet, PRESS “Update Now” from within the Nod32 Control Centre.

DAILY – check this program is “Up to Date”.

    WEEKLY - RUN A SCAN.
    (Control Centre\Nod32\Run Nod32\Clean)

    3. Do NOT share the main “C” drive of ANY computer on a network. Prior to Opaserv it was (and no doubt will continue to be) standard networking practice, by the great majority of technicians world-over to share each computers main “C” drive. With the advent of Opaserv this practice must be altered to address a security flaw found within Windows.

Share ONLY a necessary folder(s) within your “C” drive for networking.

    4. Install a Firewall. Such as the free for personal use ZoneAlarm from www.zonelabs.com I have used Zone Alarm for over 10 years, I like it because it tests up well at www.grc.com and it is “Visual”, you can see what is going on.

MONTHLY – check this program is “Up to Date”.
    (ZoneAlarm\Overview\Preferences\Check for Updates)

    5. Install SpyBot Search and Destroy. This is free for personal use and available from http://beam.to/spybotsd and www.download.com We have had many clients come in with computer problems relating to programs downloaded/ing in the background (without the client’s knowledge). One computer had slowed to a complete crawl.

DAILY – check this program is “Up to Date”.

    WEEKLY - RUN A SCAN.
(Spybot Search and Destroy\Check for Problems)

    6. Install Spyware Guard. This is free for personal use and available from http://www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareguard.html

DAILY – check this program is “Up to Date”.

    7. Install Spyware Blaster. This is free for personal use and available from http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

DAILY – check this program is “Up to Date”.

Together these security programs will give you a “Layered Defense”, learn to use them, keep them updated, run/scan/check all of the above programs, they are there to PROTECT your computer. Let them do their job, by keeping them up to date and most importantly by actually USING them...

With ALL software, and especially Windows, make sure it is ALWAYS KEPT FULLY UP TO DATE.

    Hope this helps...

    Cheers :D
