Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

This problem occurs if you download Hitman Pro, start it directly and go to Settings and check the respective setting. When you check the setting it writes registry keys that point to the Hitman Pro that is currently executing. It should point to the Hitman Pro that is written to the Program Files folder.

    A workaround:
If you start Hitman Pro from the shortcut (or Start Menu) then uncheck and then check the "Show 'Scan with Hitman Pro' on files ..." setting. This will repair the wrongly pointed registry keys.

A fix will be in the next build.

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

I believe we finally narrowed this one down:

If you start the Hitman Pro scan it deploys the 12KB HitmanPro35.sys driver. This driver is deleted when the scan is complete.
Now, during the scan, Hitman Pro is parsing all NTFS disk structures (it reads them physically from disk). It sees two HitmanPro35.sys structures, a deleted one and the one that is currently running. But due to a bug in parsing the records, Hitman Pro is using the deleted one and thus can't access the data stream (it is already deleted!). That's why the driver is displayed as suspicious as the driver is running but the structure is no longer valid. Instead Hitman Pro should use the non-delete NTFS record of HitmanPro35.sys.

A fix will appear in the next build.

Besides the mentioned bug fixes there is also a new feature in the next build called: History/Quarantine.

This one needs a few days of testing so release will be next week I think.

Malware Research Group is performing a "Cloud Anti-Malware Test using Early Life Samples" which might be interesting if you are into cloud based anti-malware. The article can be found here.

Re: Anyone tried out Hitman Pro?

Is there a way that Hitman hits also subfolders with the right-click scan?

Because this is really laborious if you unpack an installer and then scan every folder step by step. :p

    Cheers

Does the right click scan make use of the Hitman heuristics? Or does it scan all files like other on-demand scanners?

The heuristics are off during right-click-scan.

Possibly. However I removed my comments because it does appear Matt's comments in the HMP review were in jest. I've never really looked at his site, but after spending a few minutes browsing around it does appear that he does more than run a couple of tools and call it a day. I wonder if he patches outdated and often exploited software (flash, java, qt, etc.).
