To me it doesn't even look free... they expect users to buy a limited product? Not only that... buy a subscription-based, limited product!?

Sure, good point, but I'm most of all thinking about the alternatives featuring the same thing - for free! (PCAV comes to mind - I wonder why!?)

 

I haven't used it,but its GUI looks good.

Does it save resource?I don't want to make computer slow because of the AV .

 

I installed it on Vista with no other security product so it was light on resource.

We'll probably never know how business models work for these vendors - Panda obviously feel they can afford to offer a free version. Can that be said of Trend or do they just see an opprtunity to make more money?

 

Good Morning! Good luck in attempting to negotiate a market competitive price with Trend Micro, I attempted to offer them pricing on their Security Suite Pro 2009, which in my opinion is overly priced, I can do without the extras included with the suite identity and system optimizer etc. and I don't need a license for 3 p.c.'s. In my opinion their pricing should be similar or identical too their basic security suite. And this observation isn't directed at Trend Micro but to all competitors, who could avail themselves of a larger mkt share if they we're more flexible in their attitude in wanting to negotiate a more moderate pricing. Actually, in-the-cloud technology is nothing new for Trend Micro. It's been used in their Worry-Free Business Security line since June 2008. Reviews have been overwhelmingly favorable. For example,

I just took trend-micro in the cloud beta for a stroll down malware domain list and it caught every single one that I tested from today and yesterday.

I only tested flash exploits and exe's and only 30 or so so a very small sample.

well I just ran it and it found TROJ_DRAGON.R which Prevx nor Eset had discovered. Intersting. Very interesting.

Just an update. I earlier stated that trend micro blocked all the zero day links from malware domain list. I thought how were they able to do what most other AV's couldn't?

I exited trend micro security and downloaded about 6-7 exe's from MDL today and then let trend scan computer. Trend micro only caught 1 of them. It must be using a white list to block the user from downloading them because once they are on your machine--trend micro is useless.

Actually they use a in-cloud service (Trend Micro Smart Protection Network) which checks if the site you visit is safe.You can test your URL here on :

Did you try executing the files (in VM) with Trend Micro ? Trend Micro uses BB to detect many malware on-execution. I am guessing the on-execution detection will be much better.
