Easy way to upgrade to latest nvidia, ati, intel and other drivers in Ubuntu

Current envy only pulls official release drivers from Ubuntu repos and no longer fetches the drivers from nvidia or ati site. The ppa OTOH posts the latest beta tested by Alberto Milone, author of envy. Also it has updates libdrm and other files. Advantage of using this ppa is that you can stay with current drivers and in case there is a kernel upgrade, you don't have to re-install the video drivers.

Strange this site and all the https://launchpad.net/ sites take for ages, or
don't load at all with Opera 9.64. Have to switch to FF - masking as FF
does not help nor does editing site preferences to allow javascript.
Opera practically never gives me problems so I don't know what is is
with these launchpad sites.

Ocky, ppa sites are a known bug with Opera, they are working on the fix as per their devs.

 

Anyway, I'm on Fedora 11 and intel drivers are working fairly well. There is a bit of tearing once and a while, but nowhere as much as it was with Ubuntu.

The only difference I see is Fedora uses a newer kernel + newer intel drivers.

So, you might have to add the latest kernel with your upgraded drivers.

 

With latest Jaunty, there is no issues with uxa enabled if you are using Intel's G31/33/34/45 IGP, only older IGPs suffer from issues.
