Norton has the same toolbar type thing with yahoo, or used to have it, so I don't see the big deal.

    Hi disinter1 :)

    I don't use Norton anymore :(
Had to give it up 3 weeks back!
Had The Dreaded : Symantec Service Framework Stopped Working

    However...
Norton's Toolbar was nothing like the Comodo Toolbar.

The Norton Toolbar was for a Security functionality only!
    e.g..
    Anti-Phishing
    Identity Safe

I think you are getting confused with the new toolbar in AVG 8 :doubt:

AVG 8 is what I'm using now!

I don't much like the rather ugly Yahoo! - AVG 8 Toolbar.
    However...
Even the AVG 8 Toolbar doesn't go as far as the Comodo Toolbar.
    e.g..
The AVG 8 Toolbar does have a Yahoo Search box
    But that's it!
The other things on it are to do with AVG itself.

It certainly doesn't have a Shopping Button

I still think both AVG and Comodo are way out of order :(

    I think its fair.

    1. It can be disabled at installation and after installation.
    2. You are told exactly what it does at installation.
    3. This is a completely free product and comodo deserves some income for it.
    4. You get the protection and are not forced to use its other features.
    5. It may actually be helpful for some.

I feel CFP is an excellent program, and I place it second only to Online Armor. Now there is a money making program that uses the old idea of a free version to lead people into buying the paid product. Nothing hidden, no doubts. Just a clean and "safe" program that is easy to undrstand and enjoy.

    ThePheonix always rises.

Is it wrong for COMODO to make some money? I'm sure they have to pay salaries and benefits for all those talented programmers. Obviously COMODO had to change business plans to generate money.

They should offer a free version and a paid version (with more features). If the software is good and delivers on functionality then I don't have a problem paying.

Can't wait for this generation of FREE FREE FREE loafers to get over with. People do have to make a living.

I second your comments on OA. Keep it simple. I use the paid copy. Too bad CFP is going in the opposite direction.

I am not sure if this was already present in previous versions, since i didn't bother scanning before, but in this one, it seems that the on demand scanner tries to actually download updates before scanning. It didn't, since it's up to date i suppose, but that's nice!

This is the second time that this version proves me wrong. And i am happy about it!

The bad thing is that i tried twice till now and the scanner hangs at a certain point, but that's a minor detail compared to a scanner that actually updates itself.

I'm quite disappointed by this whole toolbar thing. The main reason I'm using a firewall in the first place is to protect my privacy and a toolbar which generates income for a third company with things I'm buying isn't exactly my definition of private.
To be fair: it can be disabled upon installation. Still, it has a fishy smell...

The sad thing about toolbars is that vulnerabilities will eventually be found in them so they are essentially reducing your security and adding another attack vector for malware.

I guess knowone read the part i bolded.

So its not fair for comodo to generate some income for a firewall which surpasses many paid ones in features?

    I just found another way...

You do understand comodo sells other products? They need to make money to fund this FREE project.

TONS of free products give you the choice to install yahoo toolbar/google toolbars at install. Comodo does the same thing yet its different just because its a security product. Comodo is a company just like ccleaner which does the same thing, just a lot bigger....

All you want is FREE FREE FREE.

With all these ways to disable it some people are just being greedy.

Comodo is an excellent product and believe me for 64 bit environment it is probably the best . Sometimes i can't believe this product is a freeware . Good luck to them .

We need to give COMODO some credit... They are "the new kids on the block" and have gone a long way with Comodo Firewall Pro.

    IMO don't like Toolbars either...

Re: COMODO Firewall Pro 3.0.23.364 Released!

What is done by CCleaner, AVG or some others is no excuse for Comodo. Where is their old model of revenue, they used to boast that by making users secure, ther encourage more bussiness, more bussiness means more money for comodo. It was a BIG LIE I am sure.

Let them make it paid and i will not mind. But adding a toolbar and a fishy model being paid by users searches and shopping is a big NO NO for a security vendor.

Maybe Comodo realized over time that the original model didn't generate enough revenue, so they needed to make a change? There's no need to think it's a conspiracy. And regarding your suggestion that Comodo start charging for CFP, I say be careful what you ask for. Why would you prefer that over just not installing the toolbar?

Actually I'd preffer open source for a security product, but free is OK too. :)

That way I don,t smell anything fishy or uncomforatble. Just my feeling. I know without toolbar it,s clean but I don,t feel warm and fuzzy for the developer.

    Just my opinion.
