Here's the situation: I bought and installed Acronis 10.0 on my old PC about 1 year ago, and now am trying to install it on my new Vista PC. The problem is that I can't find the activation serial number, in email or in my Acronis account that I purchased it with.

Question: Is there a registry key that contains my serial, that I can retrieve from my old (Windows XP) PC? HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis\TrueImage has a long string of numbers. Am I close?

Any other method of retrieval would work too.... :(

Hmm, I meant Acronis serial key, not XP's. But thanks...

Did you register your purchase on the Acronis website? If you did, your serial number will be available when you log in as well as any updates.

If you didn't (you naughty person you :) ), then you'll need to email sales at Acronis with the details of when and who you purchased through.

I did not register, because it is optional unlike activation to install the product.

And I do not have any receipt, because back then I didn't know that Micro$oft deletes entire hotmail accounts after you don't use it for a few weeks. Please don't insinuate that I pirated this software.

Here (https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=198715&highlight=lost serial) 3k poster MudCrab says, "If you start TI in Windows, version 10 will display the serial number in the Help->About box."

This would make SENSE, as this is true for many applications.

But, this is not true on my copy, as my About screen only displays "Priority Support" and "Free Support" and copyright information. Why is this not displaying on my 10.0? or, is there somewhere else it is displayed?

Calm down dearest - nowhere did I intimate or insinuate that your copy of TI is pirated!

TI 10 can only show the licence details if they've been entered - logical and commonsense to me. Yours apparently requires the licence ergo it won't show up.

If you email Acronis, with the approximate date or actual date of purchase, the name used, the email address used and if needs be your inside leg measurement - they may be able to find your purchase and email you your licence number.

Failing that, you'll have to buy a copy of TI 11 then remember to register it on the Acronis registration page, which will then allow you access to any updates that may be available.

Thanks, it looks like I will try emailing them as I do at least have all that information. Would they also care for the last digits of the CC used, or any other info? (I just hope their database still has me on there...)

One thing, though, is you can't install TrueImage 10 without entering the serial number first. So, I did enter it, and by your logic it should appear in Help > About, but it doesn't. But thanks.

I would wait until they asked about the CC info, might pay to let them know if it was a Visa or MC or other type and the issuer.

They'd be able to tell from the first 4 digits in their records which bank and card vendor issued the card.

If they don't have that, then they may well ask for the last 4 digits.

Are you running TI 10 in Windows? The serial number won't show when TI is run from the CD.

Also, it's possible that the serial number may not be shown in Windows in all builds. Build 4,942 does show it in Windows.

Thanks MudCrab. My build is 4,871, so I guess that explains it.

But, at least this may show that the serial is still *somewhere* on my PC, probably encrypted. Just the functionality to view it was not added yet in my build. So I'm sure someone knows how to access it.

What would be really cool, though, is if there's a way to update my version by just a couple builds (without reinstalling, as it will prompt for my lost serial then too). But there's unfortunately no "Update" option that I can see.

    * UPDATE: According to http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/support/kb/?aid=476, it seems like updating may actually resolve my issue. However, I can't find a legitimate version of the build on Acronis' site to do the Repair/Update option.

If you had registered TI with Acronis, then you'd have access to download and install the updates. You'd also have your serial number listed in your account. Hopefully, Acronis can find it for you. Then make sure to register it in you account for any future needs.

As for installing the updates over an installed version: I usually uninstall the previous build before installing a new build so I don't know if the installer would still ask for the serial number or not if a previous build was already installed.
